What is the difference between 2.4G and 5G

keavlar

Hello every one.

I wonder in basic terms, what the difference between 2.4G and 5G network?!

I have at home couple devices , which looks like, does not support 5G.

So i wanted to know, if that could cause speed difference between devices, located on same range from the modem?!

5 GHz has faster speed but less connection strength, 2.4 GHz has slower speed but longer connection strength.

Why not all devices support 5G . and what i need to look in preferences to see, if it does ?!

Short Answer is: Older Devices Came with 2.4GHz, newer devices since 2014 about come with 5GHz.

Also 802.11a, 802.11n and 802.11ac all work on 5GHz, but with 802.11n it's optional. This means that as most current routers are 802.11n models, you will probably need to find out if yours has a 5GHz radio in addition to the more common 2.4GHz one.

802.11a, 802.11n and 802.11ac, if those bands support your device which should be on the manufacturer website, then you should be fine.

Only ones I know of that support 5ghz is 802.11AC everything else N G etc downward does not and was to my understanding built for 2.4. Almsot every wireless device states the 802.11 standards it supports on is packaging or in a manual.

So , if i understand correct , i need a device, that support 802.11AC for 5G?

for the 5ghz signal yes. If you mean 5G like a cell tower system no idea. Thats an entirely different set of protocols.
