The LG G Flex has a self-healing back panel

The LG G Flex can hide scratches to its back panel at most 3 minutes after they’ve been conceded. This won’t mask viscous deep scratches but will do for the common annoying little scratches phones get.

 

This is awesome. 

Let's hope that LG will allow other companies to use this patent

The Korean press release is also reporting that there's a self-healing coating that can repair hairline scratches on the rear of the phone. LG says they are repaired "within minutes."

It's cool but why does this even matter? What would be cooler was if displays could heal themselves. Now that is a worthwhile feature. Gorilla glass scratches so easily from mixtures of pocket lint and other things mixed together making some really annoying but faint scratches on displays. If those could fix themselves, that would be awesome. Screen protectors would pretty much be useless.

don't know where I read this but those small scraches from the new smartphones(having gorilla glass 2 and further) are actually scratches on the oleophobic coating, not on the actual glass

If you want self-healing screens, get Skinomi or Invisible Shield or something, supposedly that self-heals with feint scratches and just adds more protection overall.
