Best 4k or ultrawide monitor for 300$?

Ashiella

I want the 4k monitor to be 24" to 27" or the ultrawide to be 29" for the ultrawide i'd prefer 75hz freesync and ips (I can go to a max of 350$) and I'd want the 4k monitor to be ips as well but thats allot to ask for. I like aesthetics of a monitor like a nice stand and thin bezels. I don't mind buying used, and I know we can't post ebay links so gime a search term if you use Ebay.

you can literally search 4k computer monitor on ebay and find hundreds of results...

That said, I think $300 is a bit low on the scale of Cheap vs Inexpensive

Retail links only - I don't feel comfortable recommending eBay because of the risks of defects and/or dead pixels.

Freesync isn't going to work with your GTX 970. FreeSync only works with AMD cards. Also, you can't drive games at 4k at respectable settings with a GTX 970. In fact, you won't get much higher than 30FPS on the lowest settings for most triple-A titles.

4k monitors

There is only one $300 4k display right now, although they go on sale now and then.

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/Rk98TW/aoc-monitor-u2879vf

The cheapest 4k IPS monitor is $330, but it's only 24"

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/HKL7YJ/lg-24ud58-b-238-3840x2160-60hz-monitor-24ud58-b

For $400, you can get a 27" IPS 4k display-

Ultrawide 2560x1080  monitors

The cheapest 1080p ultrawide FreeSync 75Hz monitor is $440, which is pretty far out of your budget. You'll need an AMD card anyway, so don't bother.

29" IPS non-FreeSync 1080p ultrawide for $280.

34" non-IPS non-FreeSync 1080p ultrawide for $350

34" IPS FreeSync 1080p ultrawide for $440

Not sure where you live, but in my country I can't get any 4K monitor under 310€ , so around 330$.

And those are TN monitors. Cheapest IPS 4K I can find is around 500€.

I am also on the search for 27 to 28inch 4k monitor with 75Hz refresh rate and freesync but couldn't find anything at that size under 400€ unless it is a TN. This one comes the closest to the spec but is 24inch and offers PLS("IPS") and freesync. The 28inch is a TN tho, really annoying they do this pannell swap in the same "namespace/product id" that only changes in size. (i was looking at spec of the 24inch one naively thinking the 28inch is just bigger...)

is it viable to buy a used monitor?

It can be, it's usually best to buy off eBay or something from a verified or experienced seller with good reviews and a good description. Also, welcome to the forums.

Well that is not really true if you are willing to buy from Amazon.de or Mindfactory...and even stores in Slovenia offer some under 500 as well. But some compromises have to be made, usually its the super lame stand that doesn't allow for much adjustment so you need to add 30-50€ for a decent stand or about 100€ for a monitor arm.

With such a tight budget there is not much to choose from if you want an IPS (fewer options, less hard choices :))

Click here for IPS 4k up to 350$ and also do not forget that PLS offers the same benefits as IPS so this one mentioned before also makes the cut.

1. Asus MG24UQ if you want a decent stand and speakers - 24" / 350$ (this one has 3year coverage and also sells for above 500€ in EU)

2. Samsung U24E590D if you want more colours - 24" / 350$

2. Dell Ultra HD 4K Monitor P2415Q a good all rounder - 24" / 350$

3. LG 24UD58-B Lowest brightness of the bunch and some pink antiglare coat  - 24"  / 344$

And the cheapest 27inch IPS also mentioned before that shares the same characteristics as its smaller counterpart:

LG-27UD58-B - 27" / 400$

Would it make any sense going with a 27" or 32" curved 1080p monitor for like 220$? Or going with a 27" curved 1080p 144hz OLED monitor for 300$?

Everything makes sense to somebody that is why these products exist... Tho it would not make sense to me as it doesn't your switching focus from ultra high definition of 180ppi that 4k provides at 24" to ultra low definitions of 82ppi that 1080p resolution provides on 27inch panels.

22" FHD (1080) = to 100ppi which can be considered a very decent standard for the name high definition and should provide a base of what high definition is. Dropping below that pixel density is undeserving of the name high definition. 110ppi - 130ppi is what I would consider a sweet zone for gaming and average PC use, the pixel density that 1440p panels provide at sizes from 22" to 27" so that is what I would focus on for sub 350$ a proper 1440p 24"-27" IPS monitor.

Use dpi.lv for fast calculations of what pixel density you get at certain resolutions / screen sizes.

Just get Dell UltraSharp U2515H for about 330$. It is 1440p 25" and has really good quality IPS panel (colors, sharpness, blacks) and comes with a proper stand. Probably most well rounded 1440p monitor for the price.
