Anyone can explain to me why 980 Ti prices are through the roof, even after the 1080Ti release?  ....

Maybe I should just try to sell my 980 Ti ?

It's being sold on Newegg right now for 800 - 1000 ... so obviously it's being sold.

It's not being MADE anymore, but there has to be another reason companies think they can get this marked up price.

Define "through the roof"?  Looks like they can be had on ebay for $350, and strangely the Titan X's have retained their value even better selling for around $600.

A item that is priced @ 1000 doesn't mean it sold for 1000.

Pricing/selling = two different things.

I7-7700k@5.1ghz + 1080ti @ 2050mhz + 32gbs Ram + 2TB SSD = CSGO

i7-6700k@4.9ghz + 980ti @ 1501mhz + 16gbs Ram + 1 TB SSD = Backup

i7-3770k@4.8ghz + 680 4gb + 32gbs Ram + 500gb SSD = Retired/Office work

One thing is people selling it another completely different thing is people actually buying it. It makes more sense that the Titan X Maxwell kept its price better since it is a beast card for workstations as well, and rare exclusive etc... but the truth is, the market moves too fast and nobody knows exactly how to price second hand stuff.

Unless the seller actually wants to just get rid of it for a new one and actually make an attractive pricing there is no reason not to go for a brand new current gen one, I bought a 7 months used Titan XM for 350 dollars back in November when all GTX 1070 were solid 400+ and the Titan XM still beats the 1070 if it overclocks well which that one did, now that is a good deal for the both seller and buyer, when there actually is the interest to sell people can be understanding of reality.

Okay, so, you didn't read my 2nd post, just saying. Newegg selling them NEW not USED for $800 - $1000.

I don't care about used, or ebay for that matter. Sorry ebay, I haven't trusted you for 8 years. I'm talking about buying *NEW* from retailers.

I understand this, but again, not really what I'm getting at. More like why would a retailer even be trying to sell it for this kind of a price tag.

The 980ti is still better than the 1080 in certain CUDA accelerated applications due to having more CUDA cores. This makes it more popular in workstations as a cheaper alternative to the Titan XP.

This is the kind of answer I was looking for, I just didn't actually do the research myself, it was late when I made this thread just wanted to go to bed after looking on retailer websites for a 2nd *NEW* 980Ti.

Also realize, there are folks that prey on the under educated. Lets take Frank for example. Frank is 13, he really really wants a 980ti because he heard it was the best card available. Grandma over hears this, being none the wiser, jumps on ebay and buys the first 980ti that pops up for $1000 dollars for her sweet grandkid Frank. This is what some retailers bank on.

Brand new 970's sell for like $900 on Newegg. This is only because they stopped making them, so them being brand new is kinda rare. They also have very low stock of brand new 970's so they up the price. Same thing with 980ti. Checked the used market for what prices are really around for right now. I'm selling my 980ti's for $325 each and not many people are reaching out because they think that's too high.

1080 prices probably won't be reduced until you can purchase a 1080ti.

I think you misread. I've never talked about 1080 prices. 980Ti are the prices I've been talking about.

Because the last few remaining cards are very rare and people buy them to put in SLI with the other 980ti they already have...some people want nothing to do with buying used cards so thay are willing to pay extra for one of the last few remaining ones...980ti used are worth much less...but a new one in box is worth a pretty penny at this point.

Thats really dumb. You would be better off selling your old 980ti and using the money to get a 1080ti or something, rather than spending $1000 on a new in box 980ti to run in SLI. Makes absolutely NO sense. And you would not have to deal with the imperfections of SLI.

I think its more the fact that many products on Amazon etc. which are not manufactured anymore are sold for 10x or 20x the original price for no a apparent reason. Sometimes it even looks like a glitch in the pricing algorithm. I dont think anyone in their right mind would ever actually buy them. Maybe someone really clueless and dumb.

To the OP's point, no you wont make money on selling your used 980ti. Used they go for $350 or less.
