Hi all

 

I waited for the 1080ti to release, finally I seen some news it looks like it's going to be great card, now thing is that I'm going to upgrade my cpu to ( 7700k or amd) and my gpu and get a g sync monitor 1440p probably 144hz too, and I'm wondering would the 1080ti be able to handle games at ultra/high for 2/3 years at least? I'll have a duel monitor a gaming g sync and a 1080p for web stuff.. also just wondering I have a gold certified 650watt psu enough to power?

I think you're fine with it handling only 1440P Ultra.

I was throwing 4K Ultra at my 970 until I sold it a few days ago with my old 4790K rig, going for the 1080 Ti now, I'm going to Xeon tho not i7 this time round.

Nearly the exact rig I have now! Still a good card and cpu need to sell and get a decent rig 

 

Any other ideas lads?

I'm gonna say you're fine. Right now you can slip by with mostly 1440p 144hz on a 1080, and the 1080ti is gonna be a monster compared to that, so I think you will be good for a while.

if your thinking you want to max games out at 144 FPS at 1440p for the next 2 to 3 years on one gtx 1080ti think again. I was considering get a 1440p g sync 144hz monitor just for that i was shown the errors of my way up close and personal today.

never heard of "errors of my way". It means i was wrong into thinking i could get 144fps at 1440p for the next 2 to 3 years after i was shown how well a pascal titan x is at 1440p today from a friend. And since a pascal titan x will be as close to a gtx 1080ti its a good benchmark to go off until the real benchmarks are shown.

if you have Gsync though...90FPS is more than enough it's perfectly smooth already...no need to chase that 144FPS it's useless.

yea 90fps might be good for some people others not. But whats happens in 2 years time that 90 fps is 40 fps for example with the lastest games. ?

 

It seems hes worried about future proofing and getting a 1440p monitor you will have less future proofing. To keep up with the lastest gaming titles at high fps at 1440p your going to have to upgrade faster with better gpus.  Unless money is not a problem it seems hes playing it cautious and rightly so.

 

Comes down to graphics/FPS VERUS Money Long term. Hell if i had the money i would have 3 1440p monitors and 3 titan x by now and not giving a crap about what other people are saying lol.

Don't try to future proof with a single 1080 Ti.

 

What happens when you finally get a VR headset that's 4K, 90FPS per eye?

won't be playing ultra 4K 90fps x2 screens anytime soon with just a 1080 Ti.

 

so there's no real 2-3 year future proof. just what is future proof for your needs, what you know you'll be using for that time.

 

I'm still waiting for 4K 144Hz with GSync.

hope the 1080 Ti would run 4K 144Hz ultra all games when a 4K 144Hz panel comes out.

Exactly, I even find 75hz with fast sync enough smooth for single player campaign games on my 2560x1080p panel. a Gsync on the 90ish then, no doubts there.

Yea i would love to have 4k 144hz but seriously to get anywhere near them frames even over 100 fps WITHOUT dips going below 60 going to have to wait until Volta at least maybe even the generation after that. Only time will tell.  However if you like 60fps the gtx 1080ti  will be good at 80% games at that FPS for the next year or so at 4k. 

Im abit of a speed demon i like high fps over graphics clarity. Where most peeps like it opposite they like the graphics first and the FPS after that.

imho if you go with a 2560x1440 monitor at 27'' it's perfect for a gaming PC...the images are crystal clear, it looks good...it's smooth...it's not too hard to run (GTX 980ti/GTX 1070 can run games an ultra with some sort of anti-aliasing) you do get a lot better than 1080p and it's not too crazy demanding i really think 1440p is amazing i have a top-end gsync 1440p IPS monitor and honestly it's the greatest gaming experience you can have right now IMHO...it's amazing.

The new 4K Asus monitor that has every feature is much better but 1440p is easier to run

I don't know... I have the Asus PG279Q. 165hz 2560x1440p ips monitor. I definitely can tell the difference from 90fps and 144fps. Yes, 90fps is smooth enough, so is 60fps, but when you can push 120fps+, it's night and day. When my 1080ti comes in the mail, all hell will break loose!

Nah even better. 144Hz, 4K, quantom dot, IPS, HDR, 1ms, and all the non sense with flicker free blue light stuff. All for about $1399. I am trading in my PG279Q ASAP when it comes out. I like 1440p but 4K looks miles better than it. I will also have a reason to get 2 1080tis then.

depends on your frametimes honestly with some games i can't tell the difference between 80FPS and 130FPS...but some others i can tell the difference between 90FPS and 110FPS so it depend on other stuff as well IMHO.

but i believe it's only 27'' which is ridiculously small for 4K...you want at least 32'' or more to benefit from such a ''stupidly too much'' amount of pixels IMHO.

Also you didnt mentionned Gsync?! does it have Gsync ?

 

EDIT: I see it does have Gsync...but i would only like it if it was bigger...like 35'' for example...now, at 27'' you don't need more than 1440p honestly

Oh yeah forgot G-sync. Yeah I will agree 27" is a tad small for 4K.

I just want a 4K VR headset which sounds like it is in the works if such monitors now exist.
