Comcast implements data caps and overage charges

coder-guy22296

Just now,  I read on Gigaom.com that comcast is putting a 300gb data for a majority of the plans. If you maxed your bandwidth all month on a 0.92 Mbps plan you would fill that 300gb! I'm also afraid that if we let this happen,  other issues will follow,  If you can try to switch to a different isp.

Wow Canada is now just getting rid of data caps to be more like the states, and now Comcast is rolling out data caps like their Canadian. Interesting times we live in

I'm either stuck with DSL, Comcast, or AT&T. I have DSL and I want Verizon Fios but that is not available. They literally cut my state in half with certain houses including my Next door neighbors having the availability to get Fios.

Having a cap of data per month makes no sense from a technical standpoint. 300 gb means if I download 10.1 gb a day I'll go over... if I download 10.1 gb a day I am in no way putting a huge load on their infrastructure (unless their infrastructure is CRAP).

You know what they need to do? Measure how much bandwidth is used, and increase their equipment accordingly.

Got my email from Comcast the other day about this. They showed me a graph outlining my data use over the past three months. 160GB / 209 GB / 180GB and told me they would be capping me at 300GB.

I don't think I'll have a problem with this but I see how other customers would. I consider myself an average user.

If we let them do this they might lower the caps or others might join in with there own data caps

Those $10 overage fees will make a lot of customers angry. Comcast will definitely see a customer drop if they go through with this and implement caps on most of its plans.

Comcast has had data caps before,at some point for my 3.6MB connection they capped me at 250GB,then at some point it went away.

gotta love my 50gb data cap... (i can easily blow that in 3 days if i m not careful)

300 is better but still caps shouldn t exist.

Adoption of this kind of policy sets precedence for future, more restrictive and intrusive policies. This is not a move made by Comcast to better their network or accommodate its limitations, it is entirely profit driven. If I were a Comcast subscriber I would be up in arms over this BS.

ask your neighbors to run you a line and pay them every month. xD

I have Cox and supposedly they have a 250GB limit but I've used over 700GB in one month and I never got a slow down nor an email or anything. I guess they just don't use the limits much.

Ha... that's funny. Where else would costumers go? More than half the time comcast will be their only option. Yeah sure, i'm mad at you comcast, let me cancel my internet so i can have no internet

Is this new? I thought they've been doing this for a while now. I currently have a 250gb cap that's not implemented.
