How much does RAM hold it's value?

I am dismantling my 2nd PC which is never used, which has 24GB of DDR4 HyperX Fury 2400Mhz RAM in 3x8 Config, I only bought that RAM a month ago for £220

 

So how much should I look to get in return?

Right now you could probably get a good chunk of it back, RAM prices have been going up a ton as of late. Only weird thing is that it's a 3x8 kit. Might be easier to sell it as a 2x8 and a 1x8 kit. 

 

As for exact prices, checkout r/HardwareSwap and see how much they are going for on there.

right now, you can sell it for 80% of the original price, in the future 50 or 40%, your value will go down.

Because issues can arise from using preowned hardware. Manufacturers may not even cover with warranty since the item has exchanged hands and the warranty is, usually, non-transferable; only to be used by the original purchaser.

People would rather pay full price for a new item than a preowned one which may have problems; which is close to the price of a brand new stick of RAM.

Wonder how so many people sell their GTX 1080s for £500 still, I mean by your logic a pre-owned GTX 1080 is worth 50 quid.

It loses value just like anything else. Once taken outside the store, it's second hand and thus the resell value is lower. The only exception is if the item is rare.

I agree with nerdslayer, 80% is a pretty good bet for month old bit of kit.

What you say makes sense if you are selling RAM that is couple years old from a seller who isn't PC Savvy who has probably never cleaned his PC.

 

But I'm selling RAM that has only been used in my test bench for total of 12 hours which are put back in it's box every time it's not used not to mention only a month old.

Yes, understandably it loses value, but to the people saying it loses it's value by 70% just baffles me.

 Yes because if your deal is not good enough there simply is no reason not to buy brand new, people do not care if it was used once or a hundred times, used is used.

Your RAM is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.  It's really that simple.  

 

At this point you're simply debating over asking price.  That and what it actually sells for are two completely different things.

 

Ask the 80% value that you seem comfortable with, but be prepared to adjust if you don't get any hits.

Thats weird, I bought 2x 8gb hyperx fury (not sure if 2400 or 2666) for 100 euro over a year ago.

 

Ram usually holds its value relatively well, but you seem to have overpaid by 30% or so.

Yours must have been old model then, because the model I bought weren't available till November 2016

 

They're £68 a stick right now on Amazon.
