unless you're getting some ballin' wireless AC card, a ballin' wireless AC access pint, and darn lucky with interferece, you're not gonna have reliable gigabit on wireless.

Pretty much. Why are you so against a cable? Considering you'll need at least one cable for power, something like one of these could work? Would reduce the amount of cabling especially if your router is across the house, but is a bit more reliable (and affordable) than a balling wifi solution.

To add to this, as I said you're probably going to have to have the computer be close to the router to have something resembling a reliable signal with 1.3Gbps (one of the fastest speeds).

At that point you should just run a cable.

There's just a wall betweem my computer and the router, the router is a

Netgear Router Nighthawk X4S AC2600 NiP dual-band WiFi

I'm thinking about buying the

Asus PCE-AC88 AC3100

Would that make me able to get 500+?

And if the mobo does make any difference it's a msi z270 gaming m3.

There is no way to tell you what speed you will get. WiFi has soo many variables when ti comes to speed and reliability. How much interference? How many walls? What are the walls made out of? What other wireless devices running on the same band are around?

Thats just a few questions you have to ask. So unless you install the stuff and see, you will never know.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You will most likely not get 500Mbps or over with that NIC and router.

The sad truth is that if you need high speeds, you need a cable.

For 1Gbps wireless, you will probably need to look into 802.11ad also known as "WiGig" (for wireless gigabit). It's 60GHz so you will need line of sight, and I am not sure if equipment for it exists yet, but that will be your best bet.
