Shooters set in modern era

I started downloading R6S after ragequitting a few weeks ago (because I suck at it) and went on to youtube and just put in "pro bf3" and watched the first video that I found. I started wondering, why are there no "modern" shooters. Like the ones with REAL guns, like M4s, AKs and Berettas and all that shit. Only a few like that are popular, such as CSGO and Rainbow Six Siege. I guess you could call MW3 popular too, but it's also an old game. There are no new titles really. It's all about BF1 and Infinite Warfare that people are talking about. Am I really the only one that wants a Bad Company 2 remake? Wasn't that an amazing game? Because Sci-Fi genre doesn't seem that popular anymore. I'd seriously love to get back into BF3 or Bad Company 2, feel the nostalgia. But everyone is just playing Battlefield 1 and Counter-Strike.

I will agree CoD is long gone with it's dumb feature stuff. Black Ops 2 with the drones and RCXD was a nice balance but exoskelton suits and space battles, nah. I think some more modern day shooters would be cool

COD Modern Warfare Remastered would be the closest thing to a modern shooter. Either that or BF4 perhaps?

I think Squad has a new feel.

but there are several WWII remakes on the horizon. I saw a vid with opening cinematics that looked like the old EA Games Allies Assault on Omaha beach the other day.

@Underi We had years and years of primary modern military shooters coming from DICE, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, etc., plus their innumerable knock-offs. The shooter community [the most vocal part of it, anyway] has been screaming for new settings for a long time. It's just part of the cycle of game development—you have one game (CoD 4, for example) that does a thing really well, and the rest of the industry follows its lead until the audience gets sick of it.

 

Right now we seem to be in a period of reaction against modern military shooters. People seem to want more brightly-colored games with more personality like Overwatch, or off-beat settings like WWI that don't get much attention in gaming. Infinite Warfare is doing a futuristic thing which is also somewhat overdone, and possibly as a result it's one of the worst-selling COD games yet.
