Need a laptop recommendation

Need a laptop recommendation for uni for note taking and "not procrastinating", The laptop should be light enough to carry around easily and also battery life is 5+ preferred or light charger brick. I don't really need discrete GPU as have beast desktop at home who does all the heavy lifting, storage should be no smaller than 250GB as most of bigger files are store in my server, just enough for OS and work im working on at the moment. Well the price shouldn't be too high ($2000 AUD below), any higher i won't think about it, the cheaper the better as storage is easily upgrade-able.

msi gt vr is a good option, or the dell xps 15 is my recommendation.

Msi gt vr is bit too heavy plus i don't need powerful GPU such as 1060 as i still have 980ti on my main rig is enough for all work and game i need for now. I just need light portable laptop for school.

Check out the Lenovo Yoga 910 (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/yoga/900-series/yoga-910/?menu-id=yoga_910), Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon-4/?menu-id=thinkpad_x1_carbon_gen_4), or Dell XPS 15 (http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-15-9560-laptop)

I got a Lenovo Yoga 710 15" a few months back and absolutely love it, good build quality, very nice looking, not that heavy, amazing display, and fairly good battery life. (I can get around 4-6 hours of moderate use on it)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Refurbished is a great way to go even on a higher budget. Feels like new, and you get more for the money. Thinkpad X1 series, Dell XPS series, Macbook air.

CPU - FX 8350 @ 4.5GHZ GPU - Radeon 5700  Mobo - M5A99FX Pro R2.0 RAM - Crucial Ballistix 16GB @ 1600 PSU - Corsair CX600M CPU Cooler - Hyper 212 EVO Storage - Samsung EVO 250GB, WD Blue 1TB

you will need cad, I graduated from mech engineering and i can tell you a laptop with a dgpu will be really helpful on the go. you might go study over at a library or a friends house whare you won't be able to bring your desktop.

Yea true, how about Lenovo 710? I might have look at XPS13 but kinda expensive.

even a small dgpu will help, try to get a 710 with a 740mx, the xps 13 only has a igpu.

I'm a big fan of the proper business laptops.  Dell Latitude.  Lenovo Thinkpad T-Series.  Etc.   Don't know what the situation is in Australia, but in America, they can be purchased, refurbished, for not a lot of money.

Agree that discrete GPU is most likely not required.  Gaming on a laptop is mostly a fools' game anways.

Would 710 be better bet than xps15 in terms of battery life on iGPU because 710 is way cheaper.

xps 13 has better battery life but no dgpu but the 710 has a 740mx so it will help with cad. its up to you what you want to do.
