Test them. Audio can be very subjective, a sound I like may be different to how you like it

I can't test them, my first pair of headphones that i've had for 4 years just broke and i'm trying to replace\upgrade. I wanted to try open back headphones- what do you personally think?

Rule out all the "gaming headsets" unless you need a microphone, if you do need a microphone add a modmic to your basket.

I own a pair of M50x's personally, and they're great. Good noise isolation and just plain sound good (imo). Also, very comfortable, good for long sessions of music, games, whatever floats your goat

Personally I love Sennheiser but i've heard really good reviews on the M40x and M50X. You might also want to consider the Beyerdynamic DT990's.

I just LOVE the Sennheiser 558.

It's super comfy.

The sound is perfect for my tastes:

Warm & Smooth, and it sounds wide. No harshness in the treble no boominess in the bass. The 558 is a headphone you can wear all day long. These are headphones you can relax to.

The 558 really deserves more attention over other headphones like the DT770/M50x which can be too bright for some people like me.

I would say, HD558/598 for all round sound, DT770 if you want that phat bass, AD900x if you want audio whoring (picking apart details easily) when playing fps games.

But for normal use i would stick to HD558/598, they are almost the same, a simple mod will turn 558 to a 598 easily :D
