Alienware 15 R3 RAM question?

Ram speed only makes like 1-2 fps difference I would just find a standard speed ram kit that fits the amount of money that you want to spend and you'll get more out of your money if you do that.

The fastest RAM Alienware has in their config is 2667 Mhz.

It doesn't really matter. AW fucking disabled xmp so latencies are fucked anyway.

I guess I'll just buy a nice 32GB set clocked at 2667 Mhz

Money isn't an issue.  I'll spend whatever I need to for the best performance.

Then why didn't you get a 1070? (Busting your chops)

Before you get to RAM you should look at GPU then RAM.... Unless you have a External GPU then yeah.

Its like this Getting a Macroed up mouse won't make you a better Leauge of Legends/ Dota player. it might make your life a little easier but it won't make you a better player.

Its like cheeping out on the structural design of a building then going and saying "if i buy the most expensive parts will it make the building more resistant to earthquakes"

yes it might help a little.... BUT i would advice using the money where it would help a lot.

BUT if you are persistent then corsair sells 32gb(16x2) 2666

and also why didn't you get a 6820HK. or fix your heatsink. or repaste. or repad. or OC it properly. or fix your backlight bleed. or revert your bios. or any of the other 50 things broken at stock on an AW. lol. extra chops busting.

correct me if i am worng (because I never used a SSD but this will change) but wouldn't a Samsung PCIe NVMe SSD be a better upgrade?

no. NVME and SATA ssds have no appreciable difference in real world performance. What you want is either MLC or 3D V-Nand from Samsung. So either 850 EVO or MLC ssds.

1)6820HK-Efficiency.  This isn't my main gaming rig.

2)Heatsink stuff-Didn't feel the need to.  I'd rather let it die and just get a new unit than violate my warranty.

3)OC-Like I said, I'm not willing to break my shit for that extra 1-2 FPS.

4)Backlight bleed-What backlight bleed? It was just the angle I was sitting at.

5)Revert my BIOS-Please elaborate.

6)Other 50 things-Nothing else is broken .-.

I don't edit videos or photos, so I don't see the need for a super over the top SSD.  I wouldn't notice much of a difference anyway.

Does the 1060 not come with the 99Whr battery?  Or does the 15 R3 not support Optimus?

The 1060 does not come with the larger battery.  You can get it as an upgrade though if you get the 1060.  If you get the 1070, you must get the 99 Whr battery because of voltages and all that good stuff.  The 15 R3 supports Optimus IF you get a non G-Sync panel(which I have).  That's why I didn't get the 120Hz panel.

So it sounds like the 1070 w/o the gsync panel would've been just as good with battery life yet with better gaming performance (assuming you aren't trying to game on battery).

I do 3D modeling and the like on the go with my laptop(hence why I want some baller RAM), as well as playing lighter games like Civ 5, both of which use the dedicated GPU.  The 1060 draws less power from the battery than a 1070 would, and the performance increase on those activities would be minimal.  Civ 5 limits the FPS, and Autodesk wouldn't see that large of an increase in performance anyway.  I do the heavy lifting CAD work on my personal desktop.  Therefore, I can do my work and play my games without a charger for longer and still get roughly the same performance.

You can force clock speed profiles and cpu frequency profiles with throttlestop on the go. Its an option. For instance, I have a -120 undervolt on battery bounded to the macros keys on the left (i finally found a use for the macro keys, swap ts profiles), and a heavy OC on battery.

Is this on your Alienware, or on some other laptop?
