HDD failing debating SSD for STORAGE

Daniel644

Well twice in the last week I've had 2 WORK files get irrecoverably damaged and had to redraw the changes from older backups of the files so I finally decided to run some scans of my HDD (this is a laptop with 2 2.5" disk drive bays, the first drive is a 256GB 850Pro SSD Boot drive, the second drive is the 1TB Toshiba drive that came with the laptop, which is used for mass storage of files) I'm getting a Yellow CAUTION "light" in CrystalDiskInfo for "Current Pending Sector Count" of 100 (see attached screenshot) so pretty sure the drive is on it's way out, right now I'm debating between a WD Black 1TB HDD I can get for about $72, a 500GB Samsung 750Evo I can get on sale for $140 (this is a solid 30-40 dollars cheaper then an 850Evo), this secondary drive is used for file storage and downloads so it gets a fair amount of writes to it (upwards of several GB a week), 500GB is a workable storage capacity for my use case (256GB would be to small) as this drive also needs to hold the handful of steam games I have actually downloaded to the machine aswell (most notably the 60GB for GTA:V), i'm temped to go SSD for the faster load times on games, but I just don't know the quality of the 750Evo and would prefer not to spend the $170 on a 500GB 850Evo if it's overkill.

Thoughts?
