So I recently finished my youtube and gaming rig and all I need now is a copy of windows 10 and I was wondering were I could get a legal copy of windows 10 for not a hefty price and if I should get a 32-bit or a 64-bid version from gaming and youtube.

64bit, and as for legal, afraid not, unless you got a school with a student program. Microsoft sometimes gives students a key for stuff like that.

Kinguin/G2A, but they're generally sketchy. Legal copies - but you're pretty much pirating it since they're OEM keys usually.

You're not purchasing the software, but rather you purchase the right to use the software as stipulated in the license agreement. These keys were only intended to be acquired and used by assemblers and server manufacturers, which means that the license agreement is invalid if you take up this deal as an end-user. Despite the fact that the key will activate in Windows, you're still purchasing nothing because the license agreement is invalid…

Pirate users are exactly the same in that they do not have a vaild license agreement to use the software. They might still be able to use the software and "activate" Windows, but they still do not have that vaild license agreement. That is what ultimately matters in determining if your copy of Windows is legitimate or not. That's why taking up deals like this is absurd - it's literally pissing money away. (not my quote)

Best Buy, Amazon, and Newegg sell OEM keys as well. OEM is meant for system builders in general, even in the consumer space.

Legally acquired Windows licences. We're system builders here, yes.

In terms of keys from Gamesdeal, G2A, Kinguin, etc, they could be from anywhere - MSDN, stolen COAs, refurbishers, etc

Whereas Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, etc are just selling keys from reputable suppliers (ie Microsoft, and not a third party) and at a price near the actual price of Windows.

It actually works "forever" does it not? you just lose a couple of features and are unable to customize it, but it never "fully" locks as far as I am concerned.

Pirate users don't have a legit product key, infact they have zero product key, this is the same as saying manslaughter and murder are the same...

Windows is still activated. Not properly or legally, but legally you're on the same grounds as OEM keys. You don't have a proper agreement to use the software, and that determines the legitimacy of your Windows copy.

But it isn't piracy, piracy (and my argument, Murder) is an intended action with an intended outcome. G2A purchase etc (manslaughter) is an intended action with an unintended outcome. People buying from those sites think they're buying fully legit copies, and to be honest, whilst they're available I have no issues using them and neither does the law.

So much no.

OEM keys are available for use by anyone. The pirate copies have bypassed the key entirely or used a randomly generated key.

fair point. I'll stick with my legit Win10 Pro retail copy, thanks. they do seem like legit copies, but eh.

Yes, they are - but most of the time with OEM keys from sketchy sites they're from unknown sources, so you are usually invalid when it comes to the licence agreement as they are meant for OEM devices, etc. Same as piracy - you're invalid from the licence agreement, as most pirated copies are not using normal windows licensing or activation at all.

My point is that either way you're in the eyes of Microsoft invalid and using their software illegitimately.

If I had the choice between getting a Kinguin copy and installing Insider builds, I'd take Insider to be honest. (Insider versions are 'unchecked' versions of Windows, meaning that they are preactivated and never require activation)

idk
