Choosing an LGA1151 mobo for a 7700K

Its come time that I need to upgrade my CPU and motherboard. I've decided to just go all out and get the i7 7700k and now I need to choose a motherboard... Pretty much the only thing that is important feature wise is that it has a large amount of USB connections, and it isn't ugly. I'm leaning towards the ASUS Z170-K because of that sexy aesthetic, but that one is low on USB ports... Any recommendations?

Well there aren't a lot of reviews out for Z270 motherboards so I can't help you there yet. But, if you go to pcpartpicker.com you can choose a motherboard based on the number of USB ports, SATA, etc.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

that's what I am trying to use, but it looks like you can't sort motherboards by number of USB ports.

I would wait. Wait until they all release, then decide. You don't ever want to be one of the first few to buy something that's never been reviewed.

What's your budget?

Lower end boards don't really have alot of usb ports.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

tbh I might do a 6700k, the difference b/w that and a 7700k is negligible.

Looking at an EVGA Z170 FTW mobo, total of 8 USB ports. Is it a bad idea to put a 7700k on a z170 board? what does z170 mean?

Z170 is a chipset for 6th gen Intel CPUs. It's what the 6700K was with released with.

6700K : Z170 • 7700K : Z270

Using some analogies here... are my teachers proud of me?

what i'm asking is whether or not I would have any problems putting a 7700k on a z170 board.

That's a nice sweet spot. There's a lot to recommend.

Asrock Extreme 4, Taichi

Asus ROG Strix, Prime

Gigabyte UD 5, UD 3

Msi Pro Carbon, Gaming M5

Msi Boards have the most USB port of the list.

You shouldn't have. But you'd need a bios update and I'm not sure if that ftw board carries the latest bios.

You would have to make sure it is out-of-the-box compatible with Kaby Lake. Or that you could install drivers for Kaby Lake w/o a Skylake CPU.

but i also found this: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-6700K/

Is 7700k bad?

7700k is almost like 6700k. A bit better, but not much.

As for mobos, they are all New, you can check Pauls hardware vídeo about Asus z270 boards, he shows 6~ mobos with great detail.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.
