GPU suggestions needed

Acidtearz

Hey everyone,

I am building a new PC and need help settling on a GPU. My current PC has a Windforce GTX 960 installed. My new PC will be based off a MSI Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard with an intel i5-6500 Sylake Quad-Core CPU.

Should I stick with the 960 I currently have, or should I consider a new card, and what are my best options? Preferably something around the $300 or less mark, but I can put some extra into it if necessary. Thanks for the advice!

if you arent having any issues with your current card keep it, then if you can buy a better display and gpu when you want a better resolution or refresh rate

<p>Wish I could have this already!! : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qTLRjX

I would suggest sticking to 960 if it is enough for your games, try it with new PC maybe you will be happy with it. If you see it not enough then upgrade to RX 480 8GB

No, no, no!!!!

This is the correct picture:

  • GTX 1060 > RX 480 (in 2015 and older titles)
  • GTX 1060 = RX 480 (in DX11 in 2016 and newer titles)
  • GTX 1060 < RX 480 (in DX12 and Vulkan)

with the new drivers the 480 and 1060 in dollar games is minimal to nonexistent.

Source? (NOT THE HARDWARE CANUCKS REVIEW, as it uses mostly 2016 titles)

Hardware Unboxed, when they revisited the GTX 1060 and RX 480, they said that the situation hasn't changed much in 2015 titles, but in 2016 titles (except for overwatch) they are pretty much equal....

Did he test it vs a GTX 1060? Because the GTX 1060 is MUCH faster in GTA V vs the RX 480.

I do a lot of different gaming on my PC. Older games, newer games, and everything in-between.

Depends.... BF1 performs better on the GTX 1060, for example...

Is your current card struggling or running the settings a little lower than you would like? If yes, I'd recommend an rx 480 8gb. Otherwise, just stick with your current card :)

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
