Best thing from kaby lake?? is the Intel® Pentium® Processor G4560

Does anyone else think this cpu is crazy! like $70 for what is basically the i3 7100? new best budget CPU?

No it isn't and the cheapest i3 is a dual core with no HT.

I saw it a while back, but only the highest pentium has it, while the cheapest i3 does not, cause they're just too close to each other. And the i3 that has a price that don't make any sense.  Now it seems all i3 have HT and Pentium have HT as well.

Nah. I don't think intel would remove the HT on their i7s. maybe 5 cores instead of 4 on i5 and i7s?

Maybe there will be more than just one mainstream i7 in the first place! Haswell had the 4770/K and the 4790/K, while Skylake only had the 6700/K.

Three cores can be placed in-line, but 5 cores would be a big waste of space.

Pentium = 2C/4T

i3 = 4C/4T

i5 = 6C/6T

i7 = 6C/12T for mainstream.

imo just get the overclockable i3 and max that out.  Should honestly perform amazingly well for the price.

 

I'm amazed Intel even has a K series i3.  I guess at this point people are so brainwashed into getting i5's they don't realize that an i3 with a decent clock speed will be more than enough for gaming.

There have been quite a few engines made in the last five years or so that are explicitly asking for quad-cores without hyper-threading.

I can't recall anything that didn't work on a 2C/4T i3.  The only time people had problems was with strict dual cores.

Not with the trends in many of our AAA developers. Ubisoft's Disrupt and Snowdrop engines are explicitly asking for quad-cores without locking out dual-cores. Cryengine has support for up to octa-cores and Unreal... has no such requirement leaving it for the developer.

 

Binning is actually how they fill some portions of the product line.

If a quad-core doesn't meet the mark, i3.

If it does what it's supposed to, i5.

If it does very well, i7.

 

There are other pieces to binning, but I don't work for Intel.

i was saying that with your proposed lineup, a poorly performing quad core would need to get neutered down to a dual core.

I have no idea how Intel would do their line-ups, but I think it may be time for an extra core or two since we're at the point where the hexa-cores are getting i5 level clocks.

I think the most likely we'll see is something like keep the some lineup, call the 6-Core i7 the "extreme edition" or whatevs
