Which MSI? Red vs Green.

Miniforti

OK OK OK, so, coming back. On buying a GPU.

I was already decided for the MSI RX 480. :https://www.amazon.com.mx/MSI-Computer-RX-480-GAMING/dp/B01KIZUF7Y/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1483599844&sr=1-4&keywords=rx+480+4gb

But then this Mr. Green guy appears: https://www.amazon.com.mx/MSI-GTX-1060-GAMING-3G/dp/B01KIJ7XQG/ref=sr_1_24?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1483599844&sr=1-24&keywords=rx+480+4gb

The price is pretty much the same too at this altitudes. The main diference I see is obviously the brand, also 1GB of VRAM.

I know I might be starting a war right here... but, how can I know which one is better?

No reason to buy a cut down 1060 3g. Get the 480.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I don't choose sides for companies, waste of fucking time.

I would choose the RX 480 because the GTX 1060 3GB is not just half the RAM of the 6GB model. They had disabled some cores inside the 3GB model to reduce the cost more. The RX 480 would perform better in almost all cases.

RX 480 4GB NO DEBATE

1060 3gb is a significantly slower version of 6gb whereas 4gb 480 is just 480 with less vram and smaller clock

Oh that's a 1060 3GB. That's a cut-down die from the 6GB, and nowhere near as good as either the full 1060 or any 480.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

The 6gb version is about 50% more expensive. It's a little bit out of my budget.

Check the RX480 8gb price if you need the extra vram, but you shouldn't need more than 4gb for 1920x1080p

There are so many reasons to get the 6gb over the 3gb which nvidia could've easily prevented, but theres not many reasons to pick the RX480 8gb over the 4gb unless you need it.

One very important reason is you can crossfire the 480, but you can't SLI the 1060.

Some may not have the power supply to do it, but since I do I felt cheated by that. (and the 3gb, instead of 4gb like the previous generation)

If it had been a 6GB 1060 then the choice would be yours since they're both so similar. The 3GB 1060 really is not that great a purchase sadly and falls behind the 480 in most cases and has the potential to run into VRAM limitations later.

I don't think the lack of 128 shaders makes it significantly slower.. But it's still slower :P

I don't think I'll need more than 4 GB, I won't buy a 2k monitor or anything great, maybe in 2 years or something.

I bought a 1060 when they were significantly cheaper in my country (dunno why). Today I'd trade it for a 480 with no regrets: better FPS, Freesync, Crossfire, cheaper.

No reason to get 1060 anymore unless it's cheaper

In Canada, the 1060 is generally cheaper. You're looking at ~$340 for a 1060 6gb VS ~$370 for an RX 480 8gb. So I got the GTX 1060. I am very happy with it.

I also got the 1060 because it was much cheaper in South Africa and the prices are only now more level. Both are great cards and the difference isn't so massive
