NVIDIA 960 or Radeo RX 480 for 4k?

SnipingBow

Hi, I usually do heavy work (microsoft Excel, Word, Multiple chrome tabs (20), accounting program) and I also watch videos. I want to be able to watch videos in 4k. What card is better?

Do you game at all? If not then frankly, something much much lower end that has display port or HDMI 2.0 would be more than fine for watching 4K videos with :P (like an iGPU would be good enough for 4K video viewing).

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Yes light gaming : LoL, HOTS

Both would be perfectly fine but why not get a RX470? Cheaper than a RX480 while being more powerful than 960 and still has more than enough power for 4K light gaming? :D

A 960 can handle 4K 60Hz video, but unless it's significantly less expensive than the 480, the 480 is a much better buy.

RX 470/480 or 1050 Ti would serve the purpose better.

Honestly, all you need is a basic card, but for 4K, I would say just get the GTX 960. Perhaps the GTX 750 Ti, which is a little cheaper on the market and I believe it can do 4K as well.

If you're going for gaming, and want to go 4K with it, get the RX 480.

Make sure you have enough bandwidth (internet) for 4K, and a 4K monitor so it'll look nice.

I don't believe the 750 Ti has HDMI 2.0, which would limit it to 4K 30Hz. That could be a limiting factor for YouTube videos that run at higher framerates.

I read it on Toms Hardware, and they stated that if you use DP, it'll work fine 4K 60Hz. But if OP doesn't have one/know what it is, then I could suggest another card.

For OP: Go for the GTX 960. Or any cheaper cards that can handle 4K 60Hz.

To be perfectly honest I think that both of the cards aren't really made for 4K but statistically the rx480 is slightly better and it comes pretty close to a gtx 970

They're both fine, it's just that there are some stupid idiots who thinks that you need a titan X for anything 4K related

No, I was making fun of those that didn't think they were. Both are overkill, but the RX 480 is by far the better deal.

Also think about waiting for Kabylake, will support 4K streaming from Netflix

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Just buy two Titan XPs and call it a day. You'll won't have to worry about resolution problems for a long time. :D
