    • Instant noodles are disgusting

Aaaaand now for the most important thread in the forum! Cup Noodles vs Maruchan, which do you prefer? Tell me about your favorite instant ramen brand and flavor and preparation. Or, tell me just how much you hate those things.

I did a taste test with the two cups in one sitting. They tasted different, but I couldn't decide on a clear winner. They both cost 28 cents here but Cup Noodles has slightly less sodium, meaning I can be a less salty person when I grow up. I mostly just go for beef and shrimp but right now I'm trying spicy shrimp.

This last bout of cup noodle obsession was sparked by the product placement in Final Fantasy 15. :)

Not a fan of Maruchan cups as their veggies never re-hydrate properly so you're chewing on a half-eatable veggie or chunk of mystery filler. Cup is just meh as some kinds are just gross or others are more salty.  There are plenty of *real* great stuff out there if you're looking for a good filling & tasty cup/bowl of soup but the cost will be closer to $1-1.50.

I'll have to lean towards @Slick review on dorm stuff that Nongshim is really the best tasting instant noodle and they also sell cup & bowl versions of most flavours.

When it comes to instant noodle/soups I'd only recommend Indomie & Nongshim.

I get Top Ramen for work since it's $1 to cover a work week (money saved here means more to spend on cool stuff!). Though, the ramens mentioned are nothing compared to Ichiban when it comes to the instant noodle.

I guess I'm indifferent because I don't eat them that often. Though there are a couple chicken Maruchan's/Ramen's in my cupboard/cabinet that I could make. Which surprisingly doesn't sound that unappealing right now. Thing is, I already ate and don't really need to eat again but oddly enough it's tempting to want to make one now. Damn this thread.

Still rather tempting, I just checked. I have a Maruchan Instant Lunch in Chicken, a Maruchan Beef Raman, and a Top Ramen in Chicken.

Disgusting, but my vice remains maruchan brand cup noodles.  I break an egg into a cup of beef noodles.  Actually turns out pretty great with some hot sauce added in.

Mr. Noodle.

Because that's literally the only one available on the shelves at the stores I go to. Ain't about to specifically go to some asian market to get instant noodles. Never even heard of the brands you guys mention.

I just had a maruchan but I enjoy both. I like the little styrofoam cups though.

Yea... The cup noodles are definitely more convenient. However, the packet noodles are cheaper.

2.25oz Maruchan/Nissin Cup Noodle = 28 cents (12.44 cents per oz)

12 pack 3oz packet Maruchan = $2.30                (6.39 cents per oz)

3oz Nongshim Cup = 99 cents                             (33 cents per oz)

17.8 Weichuan Beef Noodle Bowl = $4.80            (26.97 cents per oz)

The problem with Nongshim Cups are that they are expensive. I can't remember the price/weight of the box of Nongshim or their black counterparts from the local Lion store. They don't sell individual black cups here for some reason.

My favorite 'instant' noodle solution is still by far the Weichuan noodle bowl.

You actually get serious beef pieces and I just think it tastes the best all around. It requires microwaving for like 7 minutes straight since it's frozen. However, it's far more expensive than Maruchan or Nissin.

I tried the normal Nongshim Cup and for some reason I thought the black cups were hotter, but I actually just mixed it up with the packaging of another similar looking noodle cup from another company. Still haven't tried black cup. The normal cup is kindda spicy. Too spicy to be a regular hitter for me, but not too spicy for me to dislike it. I could go for a spicy one once in a while.

It seems to me that Nissin cup noodles are growing on me. I started out liking Maruchan better, but now I think I'm giving the edge to Nissin. It helps (slightly) that the sodium content of Nissin cup noodles are approx 10% less than Maruchan's (beef cup vs beef cup). I go for the beef and shrimp cups. The chicken one is meh. It's okay.

I just order rice noodles from the internet. Them with a bit of Hoisin sauce is perfect.
