Naming Your PC?

you probably shouldnt give out your computer name freely.  But i typically choose something that reminds me of the person using the machine ,or that is related to what it is on the network for.  movie star names for a movie file server for example.

My computer's name is 'Arashi'. It's Japanese for 'Storm'. My initial build plan was based around the white NZXT Source 210 Elite. My intended name for it was 'Yuki' (Japanese for 'Snow'), but I began to change my mind once I thought about blue LED lighting. However, I couldn't import my case, and two cases were available in my city at the time. I picked the cheap one, and it looks like crap, but I managed to get some blue LEDs going on and decided on 'Arashi' instead, given the case was an all-black N300; a very odd colour for a PC named 'Snow'.

 

My 2009 MacBook Pro - which was my daily driver up until last year - wound up being called Bertha. She's old and slow and heavy and ailing - and creaks and croaks in all the wrong places -  but she's a longtime companion of mine. 

 

As for the process, I always had a name in mind, but you can usually find inspiration in the colour scheme or the parts inside it. For example, a completely overkill build may deserve a name like 'Goliath'. LTT named every iteration of their overkill PC 'The Compensator'. On the other hand, a modestly-priced build with exceptional value for money may be befitting of a name like the biblical 'David', or something synonymous with humility or industry.

Recently, I've started, for whatever reason, naming things after astronomical objects. The network name is VirgoCluster. I name individual machines after galaxies. And often name drives after constellations, stars, planets, or other intra-gallactic items also.
