Cherry MX Blue for gaming (double tap)

Omie

So I'm transitioning from a cheap old membrane keyboard to a cherry MX Blue mech keyboard and this will also be my first mechanical keyboard.

I hear that blues aren't that good for gaming and that reds are the best. However, upon researching more about mx keys, I just don't think I can deal with not having some sort of tactile feedback which the reds are missing.

Plus, I like the clicky sound of blues and the tactile feedback which to me feels like I've "actually pressed the button."

My question is, for games that requires double tapping, for example, double tapping to sprint in shooters, etc. Do MX blues make it hard to double tap effectively?

Like, would it be harder to double tap effectively on an MX Blue keyboard compared to a membrane keyboard?

When i first got a keyboard with blues, games were weird and i mispressed often. I got used to it quickly.

Ive also used browns, and there better for games. Id just get browns. You will get the same fell as you will probably bottom it out most of the time.

I had no problems double tapping, but looking at the stats (actuation force) blues are harder to actuate then membrane (I'm pretty sure).

Just beware that if you have blues and live with a roommate of someone else, the sound will definitely bother them.

Blues are fine for double-tap, especially after coming from a membrane keyboard.

if you want a balance between tactile feel and speed, you might want to consider MX Brown switches, which are like blues with a tactile bump, but don't make so much noise.

Have you tried Blues for more than a minute? I highly suggest trying it out. I got Blues and sold the keyboard a week later.

Can't stand the sound.

I've tried my friends keyboard with Browns, also not a fan. They feel mushy.

I bought a keyboard with Reds, love it. Surprisingly. Everything I'd read seemed to state I'd dislike Red and want Blue or Brown.

Really, I think I'd want Blacks, but they're a rare beast. I'll try Silver next keyboard.

i tried a mechanical keyboard. I didnt like it. try before you buy.

This is a very good point. I too thought a mechanical keyboard is basically a "must have" for the modern gamer.

After about 4 months, I am still not used to my K70 with MX reds.

The quality is obviously alot better and the feel is nicer, but I just can't get used typing with it. Gaming is fine, but the keys are very sensitive, causing alot of typing errors.

I am alot faster/accurate with my membrane keyboard at work.

Rest different switches before you buy if possible. L

But I like browns.

To be honest, I mainly want the blues for that iconic clicky noise. And since this is my first mechanical keyboard, I wanted to make a change coming from a membrane keyboard.

My only worry is the double tap when sprinting in games. I see a lot of people recommended browns, but I don't wanna lose that clicky sound.

No, they do not make it hard or harder. They make the actuation noticeable, which may give an impression towards "being more distant" or enhancing difficulty when pressing twice quickly, but it's essentially an illusion.

Blues are fine to game with if you're fine with the noise. I have Blues, Greens, Clears, and Greys (note I clearly prefer tactile switches), and they're all more than fine for a former competitive FPS player.

I've gamed on blues, browns and blacks. And Futaba clicky switches, but that's a different story for another day. I think the browns were kind of the perfect balance between the other two switches. Blues have great tactile feedback, but they're a little stiffer press and that tactile bump on the keystroke can throw you off. Oh, and they're loud. Black switches are straight to the bottom linear and actuate quickly, but the lack of any feedback and the heavy key press were kind of annoying. Brown switches have a quick, smooth press, but there's a little bit of a tactile bump towards the bottom, and they just feel best when gaming for me.

tl;dr, I prefer brown switches for gaming, but blues are perfectly capable of it.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
