You could get a Z170 mobo now and wait for Kaby Lake, if it's worth it cool.

If its not, oh well. Skylake CPUs might be marked down a little.

At least that's my plan, I can't really afford the CPU right now. But I'm pretty sure I'm either going with an i7 6700K or i7 7700K.

If you were asking about Ryzen vs. the Broadwell-E line then I would say just by the Intel chip now unless you are willing to wait five to six months for Ryzen to drop, the bugs to be worked out, and solid comparisons to be made.

Given that you are choosing between Skylake and Kabylake, I would probably wait the month or so for it to drop and make the informed decision at that point. You might want to look at getting everything but the CPU for the system in advance as they use the same motherboard socket and you know that the major board manufactures will drop BIOS updates to use the new chip day of launch/shortly thereafter.
