Turns out, the Radeon R9 270 is just a slower clocked R9 270X, and… that’s it. Both cards make use of a Curacao GPU with 1280 cores, only one is called XT and the other is PRO. To be honest I expected R9 270 non-X to feature 1024 cores, just as Pitcairn PRO did, but the ID from a leaked BIOS suggest that both Curaco GPUs are the same. If you are confused why I mentioned Pitcairn, it’s because Curacao is simply rebranded Pitcairn.

Don't see why this would be but the 270X is 200 USD so a cheaper solution could be a more viable option. Anyone agree?

There's a review sample coming, so it's not OEM only, there is no way this card has 1280 GCN cores, it will definitely have 1024 GCN cores, the BIOS ID doesn't really prove otherwise.
It wasn't long ago that you could flash a 6950 to a 6970 by using a 6970 BIOS .

Remember the 7950 to 7970 flashes too! We will have to see the cards once they come in.

The 7950 does not flash into a 7970, the 256 GCN cores were physically disabled with a laser cut.

Some cards could, couldn't they?

who cares about the 270 non X I want details on the 290 non X :3

Lots of people, it's essentially slightly better than a GTX 480 / 570 / 660Ti and comes in under the magical $200 making it excellent for a Steam Box on a budget.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

If you look at what he is quoting, it says, "Don't see why this would be but the 270X is 150 USD so a cheaper solution could be a more viable option. Anyone agree?"

Just confusing because there was no mention of an edit by the OP.

Curacao isn't simply a rebrand as it supports TrueAudio whereas Piticarn does not.
