layman's terms. I'm not going to go in detail about how the GTX 1050TI gets an average of 5-10FPS more than the gtx 960 on rise of the tomb raider but not other games.

Are there any refurbished R9 Furies you can pick up? The Fury generally performs better than a 1060 6GB, actually competing with a GTX 1070 in DX12 and Vulkan games and more so at 1440p while in a DX12/Vulkan game. Generally should cost less than a GTX 980 and perform better.

Well this confirms my answer. Fury is best bang for buck, especially for 1080p 60Hz gaming, and if you decide to jump to 1440p 60Hz gaming, it will do fine, especially if the game is DX12/Vulkan.

I checked and could not find any refurbished cards so 330 USD is the lowest

Which is the same as the 980, and the Fury is a bit better than a 980. I'd go with that for the overall best price to performance ratio. Also if you OC it'll come even closer to a 1070, don't expect it to beat it but the 1070 cost like 65% more than a 1070, the 1070 sure as hell won't give you 65% more performance.

Ok, thanks. The problem now is that the R9 furys I found are not blower style coolers. Does this matter or is it necessary when upgrading a pre-build?

It'll be fine, there are no blower style R9 Furies if iirc
