My school gave us chromebooks, and I would like to wipe it and put linux on it... but  they have blocked the command prompt, and many other settings! I am looking for any suggestions on how to get around this computer being locked down.. Leave any questions or comments below! Thanks!

Is it a loaner or yours to keep forever?  Because wiping a school computer is a huge no-no.

Clonezilla would help. It'd wipe the drive allowing you to install whatever you want.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

There is probably a reason (a good one) as to why they are configured like that, and unless it's your to keep do not wipe this... don't be a dick to those it-guys.

i would, but they have many progams installed on it that seriously diminish my ability to work on school stuff

It doesn't matter.  And if you could really care less just buy one yourself.  Messing with school computers in general is a bad idea no matter what computer it is.

literally everybody is treating it like a windows machine.

without the shell, you cannot run crouton which is a utility for installing linux. just wait until they update with android functionality, then (for intel 'books) run wine

idk

How so?

Talking about piracy in general, broad details, is acceptable however the posting or discussing pirated/hacked/cracked or otherwise nefariously obtained content is not. This includes Windows content, games, hackintosh, etc. Also discussions regarding ways to avoid or block legitimately installed monitoring/tracking software or the like is also not allowed.

This isnt piracy :/.

This is against your terms of services most likely for your school, I my self had school laptops and It said don't do stuff like this. Just download a VPN to bypass the school proxy and let it be.

Also IT guy is gonna be pissed, And if you do damage it you will have to pay out of your pocket.

How would tracking software prevent you from doing school work? Unless you are trying access sites to cheat on your assignements.

I would also like to know how this is preventing you from doing school work? Having actually set this type of stuff up I can definitely see the potential for it to if badly configured or too restrictive, if that is the case then write down what are the issues and how it is effecting you and submit that to your head of IT/school. No body actually wants to stop legitimate work from getting done.

Also putting Chrome OS back on when your done isn't enough, these devices are usually tied to management software and have other things installed and tied in to the school IT systems, a basic install is no more helpful than having nothing on it at all.

Edit:

P.S. If the issue is the device is really slow then welcome to chromebooks, they are pretty rubbish and you get what you pay for.

Thread is being locked down. Attempting to modify a computer in a way that you're not supposed to is not okay, and you could get in some big trouble for it, and we are not going to be a vehicle for these kinds of activities.
