What i7 should I get? GTX 970 sli

Hey guys! I have 2 GTX 970s for sli and I need a CPU to run them. I know that I want an i7 but I dont know which one to get. 6700k seems to be a popular choice but I don't need graphics from the CPU.

The only other option would be the 4790k or 5820k. But the 6700k has better single core performance, i think so it would be better for most games. Its also newer, more efficient and you will have more and cheaper motherboards to choose from

Your choices for i7s

  • i7-6700k - allows you to overclock and is a great CPU
  • i7-6700 - basically the same as the 6700k only you cannot overclock it
  • i7-7700k - the new Kaby Lake Intel processor that is coming out soon (hopefully)

We know its a weird thing they keep doing. If gaming is the main thing you do with light creation stuff the 6700k is the best option. If you do more creation get the i7 5820k as it has more cores. But remember SLI and Crossfire are always worse options then 1 good GPU. The support for both is also trending down as the programming for them is both tedious and time consuming, so most developers are steering away from it.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

The difference in price would be marginal. He'd save himself $30 at max.

Currently in NZ the price difference is quite a bit larger, only one store has the 4790K in stock and it is $739.50 ($526 USD), and the 6700K is readily available at $489 ($348 USD).

There. You see @GamerMan your claim has been rejected by multiple people of the community or as I would like to say: you have been roasted

So, if The Shire has Intel, does Mordor... Never mind. Don't want to start an obvious clan war.
