Which option?

Hey guys..

so currently waiting for the 1080ti.. And in the mean time I'm planing on either;

1.Keeping my z97 motherboard, Getting an i7 4790k

2.or getting an z170 motherboard, then getting an i7 6700k

not sure on what to do, I'd like to go for the first option, but is the 4790k getting old? not doing any maybe a bit of editing bit not much, mostly gaming at 1440p

And the 2nd option is a bit pricey as I'm saving up the £ for the 1080ti

any ideas?

Cheers.

Well for starters you can't use a 6700k on a X99 motherboard :P

The 4790k is still one of the best cpu's available, so thats a perfectly good choice.

PC - CPU Ryzen 5 1600 - GPU Power Color Radeon 5700XT- Motherboard Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming - RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB - Storage 525GB Crucial MX300 SSD + 120GB Kingston SSD   PSU Corsair CX750M - Cooling Stock - Case White NZXT S340

Peripherals - Mouse Logitech G502 Wireless - Keyboard Logitech G915 TKL  Headset Razer Kraken Pro V2's - Displays 2x Acer 24" GF246(1080p, 75hz, Freesync) Steering Wheel & Pedals Logitech G29 & Shifter

What about Kaby Lake?

kaby lake is pretty much equal to skylake cpu-wise.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

none whatsoever . igpu is faster , and you might get slightly higher clocks , but power and heat go through the roof when overclocking.

So I would be better off with a Skylake? For games, editing and some overclocking?

meh . If you're buying a new platform anyway and kaby lake is available , get it anyway , but i definitely wouldn't advise upgrading to it.

Your 4790 is fine. It's not worth the complete setup overhaul (cpu, mobo, and ram). There would be almost no difference in game performance.
