Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Whatever you choose just make sure it's running a BIOS that supports Broadwell-E so you don't need to worry about updating.

For workstations, asus tends to have the highest amount of validation. (I silently pray that this is a workstation)

My ASRock Extreme4 X99 is probably the best bang for buck for ATX X99 boards. Yes it has no LED Strip headers and no pump header for custom loop but so long as you aren't looking for that stuff.

Good question. I've got a Haswell-e so I can't tell you about Broadwell-E support :(

CPU: I7 5820K@4.0Ghz | Mobo: ASRock X99 Extreme4 | Ram: 4 x 4Gb G.Skill Tridentz@3200Mhz | GPU: XFX 390x | Cooling: Corsair H115i | PSU: Corsair RMX 850x | Storage: Samsung 250Gb 850 EVO + 2tb Seagate HDD | Case: Inwin 805 | Keyboard: Tesoro Gram Spectrum | Mouse: Tesoro Gram H3L | Mousepad: Corsair MM800 RGB  | OS: Windows 10

They also sell more motherboards than any other manufacturer, which might explain why OP has seen more negative reviews.

You might want to research some of this information on your own.  I wouldn't buy main components like this without haven't seen myself that it supports what I need.

Form factor?

SATA port count?

M.2 wanted? SATA or PCIe if yes?

Wifi?

Ethernet speed (1 or 10Gbps)? How many do you want (up to 2)?

PCIe and PCI slots?

Are you overclocking?

Do you plan to water cool the mainboard?

Do you want RGB?

Is there any rear IO that you want or need?

What internal IO headers do you want (USB 3.0 or two of them, etc.)

Misc. Features (Dual BIOS, Internal USB-C connector)?

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

It's a good way to determine if a board is shipping with the latest BIOS.
