Get a better Motherboard or a better cooler?

I´m planning to get a MSI z170 Gaming M3 motherboard for an i7-6700k. I wonder if it is better to get a better motherboard or should I invest on a better cooler for overclocking. What do you think?

Better cooler for sure. Better mobo won't improve anything at all

Will I achieve better Overclock speed with a better Cooler than with a better Motherboard?

It could be any of these

Maximus VIII Hero ( $229.55 ) + Hyper 212 EVO ($32.94) =   $262.49
MSI M3 ($127) + Corsair Hydro Series H110i ($127.26) =      $254.26

Or should I wait a little more to get both a good Motherboard and a good cooler??

I don't think your use case will really benefit from a better motherboard. Get the H110 instead of the Hero.

And between the M3 and the Gigabyte Ultra Gaming ($175) which one represents a better overall value?

Yes defenitly do save up for better components.

Though, you don't have to go with a hero board. You could consider going with a cheaper overclocking board. Like the Asus Ranger or Asrock extreme 4.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

The Ranger is $4 cheaper than the Hero so...:P

I've never been a big fan of Asrock though.

Skylake has like 1 year since is out, is still ok to invest a little more on it?

Well then, hero it is.

Asrock made one of the best overclocking board with their oc formula this gen. I haven't seen a reason why one should avoid asrock.

That Asrock oc formula looks really good, but it's way beyond my budget :P

Not sure what your asking here? Do you already have a Z170?

This.

Get the cooler now and throw it on whatever you currently have. Then when you get the CPU and mobo swap it on.

Sorry xD

I still do not have the Z170 motherboard. I was asking if it is better to buy the MSI M3 with the corsair cooling or wait for another month to get the Hero with the corsair.

Best value? Go for the cheap motherboard AND the cheap cooler and forget about overclocking - or at least try not to maximize it. ;)

Overclocking generally offers very poor value if you actually invest in it.

Invest the difference in a graphics card, liquor & hookers, or put it away so you can upgrade sooner a few years down the line. :P
