The only thing GTA clearly does better is driving, damn making the highway loop in GTA is the best driving experience I had in games for a great good while, that was one of the largest things that set me off the original Watch Dogs, with its laughable driving system.

To be honest I was disappointed for many other things when Watch Dogs 1 came out and none were the considerate decrease in graphic quality from its E3 footage.

The driving in WD2 is probably on par with GTA 5's. I'd boot GTA 5 up to test but I haven't played it in months and I don't feel like dealing with their janky ass launcher.

WD2 finally finished downloading this morning so now I can finally give it a proper play run for a couple hours.

I've played through Mafia 3, and it was a harrowing experience. It looks decent with a sweetfx profile I used but without it, not really.

My A8 6600K only just handles it so im not complainin

Played for about 30 minutes today. Drove around the city for a bit. FPS hovered between 55 and 45, ocassionally dipping into the high 30's but remained fairly smooth for the most part. There were one or two instances of hitching, but nothing unbearable. I see a lot of detail in the grass, trees etc. and a lot of shadow detail as well. So I can see why it could be fairly demanding. It looks good, but not mind-blowing. 

 

It runs about as good as I expected it to, all things considered. I wouldn't call it "horribly unoptimized" but I also wouldn't call it "well optimized". Somewhere in between perhaps. Recorded some footage. Will post up once I get the time to upload.

God damn. That's around the performance I got on the OG Watch_Dogs.

 

Do you own the OG Watch_Dogs? So we can hopefully compare performance.

You have the third best gaming GPU on the planet (if we include Titan XP), and you are in the high 30's sometimes? Let me guess, it's not even maxed out in settings?

Titan XP > 1080 > 1070/980Ti > 1060 6GB/980.

 

I'm using the ultra settings preset with motion blur turned off and textures reduced to "high" so it doesn't peg the Vram. No additional AA. When I did try MSAA 4x, the frame rate TANKED massively (like 25-30). So I left the AA at the ultra preset values. It didn't really make the game look any better anyways.

 

Once my 1070 arrives later this week, I'll test with DSR at 1440 and 4K with no AA.

I thought you had a 1070 (signature). If/when you do get one, max out that texture setting. As long as there is enough VRAM, and the throughput is high enough (it should be), there won't be any performance degredation.

Lol, yeah, sorry. Still rockin the 980 for now. I ordered the 1070 on Black Friday and NCIX only JUST shipped it out from BC a few days ago (I live near the other side of the country). It's expected to arrive this Thursday. Changed my sig back to avoid confusion.  

 

That being said, I'm still happy with the performance from the 980, but the AA filters are far too demanding, IMO. I don't know if that's an optimization issue or if it's just too much detail for the GPU to handle.
