Linux Bootable USB to check hard drive status

Go to solution Solved by it_dont_work,

Is there a small disk image(~200 megabytes) that i can burn to a usb and boot from to check the life/status of my hard drive?

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

Gparted is a partition editor, AFAIK it has no way of checking HDD health.

OP, get hirens boot CD.

Smarttools is built into Gparted last I checked, and has been on all the live cds I've got. Also the gnome disk utility usually has a health monitor.

Given I didn't specifically say I meant gparted live.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

Fair enough, I was unaware. TBH I've never used a Gparted live CD, only ever used it from Ubuntu.

In that case OP +1 for Gparted from me too.

@babadoctor@Master Disaster , Hirens is still a very good option and has a lot of useful utilities built in for other purposes

I'm just used to using other utilities and haven't really used Hirens.

Doesn't hirens also have the Gparted live CD option built in? Either way Gparted would be better as its smaller than Hirens which has grown to be pretty big over the years.
