Then you are a bit in a pickle.  Depending if your OS is OEM or not.  If OEM, the OS will be locked to the hardware.  Retail copy can be installed several times.

The issue, different hardware does not play nice with a OS that been installed on a system supporting a different configuration.  If same config, one can break the registry SIDs to allow moving from one of the same config to another with same hardware config, but different configs is asking for trouble.

There is two major types among Windows OS.

OEM, that most retail desktop, laptops, and tablets come with, but individuals can buy that type of OS since it tends to be cheap.  Once installed, that type is locked to hardware.

Retail, is mostly sold to individuals, costs way more, and can be installed more than once.  That OS still puts in SID locks in the registry.  It is kind of like a security feature, but can be broken (done it quite a few times during my guard weekends when we are practicing image capturing).

The thing is, that OS installed on the HDD expects an AMD CPU on its motherboard and all drivers that go along with that system.

It can probably be done, but you talking about a huge headache, and probably a system not solidly stable as you can't make absolute sure you got all the drivers out.

linus mentions something about buying windows os on a usb and getting better license terms, i still dont really know what he is talking about there because i doubt its the same as a retail version which costs a lot more then a oem os

i have the retail version it came with my pre built system and i deleted the oem version and put the retail windows 8 into my pc and got a fresh restart with no oem. and eventually i put it on a usb.
