i5 2500k vs new i5

hi my motherboard recently broken down asus z77 pro and im using i5 2500k.

wondering if the new i5 6400 with asus z170 pro motherboard is going to be better than my previous system? or which motherboard would you suggest going with my new i5 6400?

or should i always go for i5 6600 or the i5 6500?

either get the 6600k with a z chipset motherboard, or get the i5 6400 with a cheaper H or B chipset mobo.

30-50% with 2500k to a 6400.

I don't know where you found those numbers, but you are wrong.

i5 2500k to i5 6600 is at best 15% increase. And that's at stock. When you overclock i5 2500k, it will be only around 5% worse than i5 6600.

So when it comes to i5 6400, there isn't any difference in performance. Acctually i5 2500k is 10% better than i5 6400 when you OC it.

Yeah, that's another problem.

Getting new 1155 motherboard is almost impossible, but there should be some used ones avaliable.

Since he is using few years old build, I would suggest to OP, to just buy used motherboard for like 50$.

In Slovenia (which is a small country), I can find at least 10 differend 1155 motherboard on the market.

So if he is from US, there should be at least 200 xD

Well, there is more than pure cpu speed, and the 6400 has much faster storage, io, and uses much less power but aside that point.

It depends on use 01%20-%20Gains%20over%20Sandy.png

Get the 6500 if you're going to get a locked chip, I think the 2.7ghz one is a little too slow.

If you like OC'ing, definitely go for the K.

Keep in mind you'll have to buy new RAM as well. Black Friday's here in a week though so that's the best time to buy.

I have a friend using a 2500k right now. He has to upgrade, as it can't keep up. So. There is more to consider than simple synthetic benchmarks.

Haha, unfortunately supply doesn't really work like that. I looked for an 1155 motherboard a while ago. There's really not much, at least at a price where it makes sense.

The 6600k is about 25% faster than the 2500k, I think those were the numbers he was thinking of.

the thing you do have to wonder is, you can buy a second hand mobo on the cheap most likely, but how long will it take to form a new problem? if the budget is available to modernise, it's probably better to just suck it up and go with a new platform.
