New SSD: 76/120GB Available?

alca

I've just connected my new SSD, but it seems that it's filled with Windows files, why is this?

I've attached the SSD disk (F) and picture of its files (WinDirStat)
WinDir reports only 18GB on it, mostly Windows.old files - so am I free to format the drive?

Cause your booting on your SSD?

If your local drive is F: then your OS is installed there, though I'm not stopping you from formatting your OS drive :D

win.old is your old windows that you have when you upgraded to 10

If this isnt your main drive and you pretty much just bought  it and plugged it in, yes. Do format it.

Theory is when you know everything but nothing works. Practice is when everything works but you dont know why. In this computer, theory and practice are combined: Nothing works and i dont know why.

Atleast i can manage Some things, like my current OC personal best.

No, I boot off of my HDD currently, which is C (all Windows files are there)

You can also see in the 2nd image that I don't have Windows on it, only some .old files

+ just got the SSD, so there can't be Windows on it, right?

If you bought a new drive it should be empty. If there is stuff on it already, maybe someone has used it previously.

SSD's Windows folder is only some crappy files, 400mbs. C: is 10x more by the time I clicked on properties.

Then go return this and ask for a refund because no NEW drive should have files already imprinted on them.

Even if you think its "new" you will never know and it having files just increases the suspicion.

Forgot to mention - I was told that it was tested only so they can be sure it runs correctly, thus it might be the reason why there are files on it. I'll reformat this.

I can't reply for some reason, it's been used for 4 hours. So yeah, just tests done on it. I'm okay with this, thanks for your help guys.

Was just about to mention this.  If you look at the "date modified" section, some of those dates are right around 10 years ago, which is weird to say the least

Yeah, I've had that for a lot of stuff. Don't think it's anything to worry about
