Hey guys. What one do you reckon is better and why? should i pay the little bit extra for the alternative, or mix and match the components from the two builds?

it has hyperthreading so its basically fine, its almost a quad core

Builds:

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Don't worry. When I built my PC that was also my worrying but I assure you it is fine.

This guy said it perfectly.

I heard that hyper threading only helps with content creation not gaming, but could be wrong about that?

helps with everything that can use it, it can help with gaming preformance too. the computer just sees 4 cores not that 2 are cores 2 are hyperthreaded

aw hell no. It's not even close to comparable to a quad core with the same IPC (like an i5), but since AMD is so inefficent with its cycles and the architecture is so old the i3 should still win out

i know but its better then no hyperthreading

that's once you got your standard i5, because 4 cores and 4 threads are enough if you're just gaming. Below 4 cores, you're going to see a performance hit, but shouldn't be anything major on a 460

The 460 and the Skylake i3 are a perfect match for each other.

@Bananasplit_00 wayl technically windows doesn't see cores at all, it sees threads. But yeah, a hyperthreaded CPU is better than not

it sees them as the same is what i ment to say with it so... :P

I'd see getting the Athlon X4 over something like a Pentium, but certainly not an i3.

This depends on where you live. In the US, the RX 460 is about $105, the GTX 1050 is about $115, and the GTX 1050 Ti is about $140, going by PCPartPicker prices.

Ah okay, if you're looking to get the best for your money I recommend looking on eBay or something for a used CPU.

Here in the UK you could get a i5-6400 used for the price of a new i3-6100.

CPUs are hard to break.

At this point I would tell you to do the same for your GPU, but since the RX460 is so cheap for what it is, I won't recommend it.

Unless you can find a R9 290 or something for $120 which is unlikely.
