buying Are Kingston SSD as good as Linus say?

Hi, I was just wondering something. I currently have a 60gb ssd in my system and I really need to upgrade soon. I was wondering whether Kingston ssd's are as good a Linus says. Where I live, a Kingston V300 120gb is around $34 USD. Linus praises them to the Sky for their reliability, and it also comes with Arconis, but should I get it? The reviews online are not amazing, I want your input. Thank you!

i would get a bigger ssd. i started with a 120gig.

i wanted to use it a a system drive and install some programms on it, 

Only to realize soon after, that 120gig is just not enough for todays programms.

So if you can, then go for at least a 250gig model.

But back to the topic : kingston ssd aren't known to be faulty, or to break sometime soon, i would say above average in most comparsions.

I'd recommend a 250GB. Kingston SSDs aren't known for having the best quality or anything. I'd personally go with a Samsung 850 EVO.

i have used a lot of them in builds and never had any trouble with them, they aren't as good as samsung but they are a hard to beat for what you pay for them imo

Personally, I recommend better drives such as the MX200/300, 850 EVO, X400, or SP550.

 

The Kingstons aren't bad drives, they just don't have the best track record for endurance.

Thank you! I'm gonna get the SP550, a shop is out of business and selling them for around $20 per 120gb ssd. Might pick up two.

You are from HK too! Aren't PC parts sooo much cheaper here? Sham Shui Po is the best, except for the crowds.

The Kingston V300 is the bait and switch drive. Just about the last thing I'd ever buy.

I can never have enough SSDs so I never get rid of them regardless of size, speed, or cost.

The Kingston V300 is among the worst SSDs you can get, even for $34 I wouldn't get it.

 

Look for alternatives like the Adata SP550, PNY CS1311, OCZ Trion 150, Hynix SL308, Kingston UV400.

Those inconsistencies though, ouch. It just shows how much Hynix hit it out of the park with their implementation of planar TLC.

I had hopes with the MX300 hitting the cheaper-end but the UV let me down like bad coitus lunch.

The MX300 is pretty great with its additional capacity so even though it costs a bit more, it ends up winning in price/GB. And the M.2 version doesn't cost a huge ton more, I'm a big fan of M.2 SSDs because less cables.

I personally think Kingston should have used 64Gb packages rather than 32Gb as scaling would have been much better. Note: Even the WD Blue 3.5 does better in the "real world transfer" and "MB/watt" category... OUCH!

It's kind of depressing trasnferring a game from my HDD which can do 200MB/s sequential into my SSD and seeing it perform at half the speed

 

But on the other hand, I would never go back to HDD only again. Dat 8 second boot time!

Samsung and Intel SSDs can cost up to twice as much though. Any data showing reliability of these drives? I'm skeptical because I've yet to run into any problems with Kingston Memory or Flash Storage.

It's the Kingston V-series that was the issue (and this one). They touted it as something and it didn't do well at the lower capacities.

 

That said, the memory and flash drives are fine.
