So, I recently ported one of my Windows 10 apps to Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 .

I want to see if that was a good decision (i.e. do people still use Windows 8.1).

Thanks

This should be a checkbox, rather than a single choice based poll as some people use multiple OSes.

Oh. Lol. One of my friend's uses 8.1 cos he doesn't see anything inherently wrong with it.

A variety of OSes here

PC 1 : Win7 / Linux Mint 17.3

PC 2 : Vista

Laptop 1 : Linux Mint 17.3

Laptop 2 : XP

I used to have 8.1 on PC1 and played around with 10 on it too, but they were both having so many issues that I ended up buying a Win7 key for it.  Never liked the Store apps tbh, even if I were on 8.1 or 10 I'd never use one of those.

I'd consider using the Windows Store if they fixed its' inability to use drives other than Local Disk C: and it didn't create a crapload of folders on said drives.

Windows App Store is worse than Skype, and I loath using Skype since Microsoft bought it, so that tells you where I stand.

My apps can be installed on any drive. it's up to the app developer to enable it. Not Microsoft.

Great to know, although that's a poor decision on Microsoft's part IMO. Imagine if all of a sudden Steam only allowed installing games on SSDs...

Or rather, if Steam required game devs publishing games on their platform to specifically include code to install to an SSD...

Actually, I'm curious. Wanna link to one of your apps? I'll test it out right now.

Nice app! Installs fine on my External drive, still won't install on my dual drive pool array running through StableBit DrivePool...

But this is the same issue I have with all other apps, so this tells me the Windows Store does not play nicely with 3rd party file system drivers. Ugh :(

I use Windows 10, even though I literally made it look as much as the win7 as possible, like I even went through the trouble of register key editing to have the former windows photo viewer, I love windows, I loved XP, loved 7 and I really love the win10 however I hate whenever they try turning it on tablet/cellphones, I like my desktop and start menu the way they always were.

With that said I have only ever used the Windows Store once which was to download the Skype Preview app, since I use Skype awfully a lot and this especial Preview app FINALLY allows you to set it to a dark theme, black background etc which my eyes appreciated a lot.

Everything else I have never used and even deleted most of the apps, not to mention having to disable that xbox dvr thingy through the register key as well. Personally as long as I have room to keep my desktop as clean and simplistic as possible I'm satisfied:

You can circumvent this by figuring out where said apps are installed (not that hard if you know what to look for or how to look for it), moving it, and replacing the folder in the original location with a symlink.

Hey hey! I never actually thought about that, and I already use symlinks for other things. Definitely something to try later to get the free Forza installed on my C drive, then move it to my other larger storage drives. Good idea!

I use Ubuntu Linux because of the security, features, openness, better hardware utilization efficiency, upon many more things.

How 'bout no?

If there is one thing I hate more than anything else, it's when a client asks me to make a program for macOS. I don't own a system that runs said OS. I use Ubuntu Linux, not macOS or Windows (that's why WINE exists, so that I don't have to use Windows. I tend to turn down clients that ask for a Mac program.)

System specs:

Core i7-5960x

64GB DDR4 RAM

Dual GTX 1080s running in 2-way SLI

Nothing else really needs to be put here. Check my profile for full specs.
