A Rant About Beginner Tutorials.

It's no problem. I just something I noticed some years ago that most of us do at some point or another. And I noticed that is easier to get annoyed/frustrated while not putting the responsibility anywhere, but the negative feelings diminish as you make the impersonal-to-personal shift. Things like "there should be..." become, "I would like...", and all of a sudden the rant become a wish. And rants breed frustration, but wishes breed projects. I found this point of view useful, so I share it with people :)

That's actually a good practice, as long as you get each quote correctly as you did ;)

I hate beginner tutorials for PC building. I hated not knowing anything about computers. I didn't even know what RAM was. So when I decided I wanted to build a computer, I went to YouTube since I'm a visual learner. I searched for a full guide. A complete guide for complete beginners is what I wanted. But all I found was how to put the parts together. And when it was over, they didn't show you how to install Windows. What the heck. So I had to go on this forum and ask what every single part that goes into a PC is. Then I had to look up every single part individually. That's the problem. Why isn't there a video? Just one video. One video to tell you what all the parts are. Why do you have to go to multiple different videos and receive some information that you later find out isn't exactly correct. Like when you get told to never use a stock CPU cooler because they always suck. That's just untrue. And it sucks because I'm a kid, and it's rare to find someone around your age that you actually know, that's into computers. Plus when you talk about it to "non- nerdy" people, they probably just have a Mac. There needs to be an honest tutorial for people that don't even know what a graphics card is, because I was actually in that situation. And while I was learning about computers, I wrote everything down in a notebook. I mean, everything. Now that I look at it, I have some stuff written in there that is so stupid, it makes me facepalm. Anyways, that's just what I hate idk lol I'm bored.

A tutorial this comprehensive would be a couple hours long, if you have to explain what every part does and the rational behind choosing what part for what build.

Having a singular video that not only gives you a in-depth explanation of each component while also telling you how to install said component would be very long.

So you are stuck with having a singular video with very general information, or having a series of videos each dedicated to a different component/topic.

Personally i feel having different videos, made by the same people, for each component works best for most folks.  As the video length is shorter fitting into people's attention span, but also because its a lot easier to go to a specific video on a topic you need the most help on rather than skip around on a singular video trying to find the section you need to revisit.

well Paul's Hardware did a more in-depth video series about that topic.

And TBH: most people don't care about what each single component does, they just want to save some money on building it themselves so they don't want that extra information

The short answer is: because you haven't made that video yet. Maybe you when you finish learning, you can go and make that video.

It may seem odd, but believe me: you can find the answer to your question in grammar. Sounds crazy? Bear with me. In particular, let's inspect the use and abuse of impersonal tenses:

(...)

There needs to be an honest tutorial for people that don't even know what a graphics card is, because I was actually in that situation.

"Why isn't?", "There needs to be". Try to transform the impersonal sentence into one with an actual subject. Like "Linus should make" a video. Like "Why doesn't the UN" have a video. Like "The government should create" beginner tutorials for everything.

As soon as you do it, you will realize you are ranting about the lack of something you can't really make anyone responsible for. The impersonal sentence make it sound like the world owes you a video, but as soon as you move away from it you can't find exactly who is at fault for not making it. And then you realize that no, no one really "should" make it.

So we are back to the short reply: the video you looked for doesn't exist because people making videos to please themselves didn't find it interesting enough, and people making videos to attract viewers didn't think it will have a large audience. And both types are free to spend their time making whichever video they want.

So, ultimately, the main reason why such video doesn't exist is because the person most convinced about the interest and usefulness of such video (you) hasn't got the knowledge, the means, the time, and the will to make it. Yet. Maybe one day you will fill that gap that you perceive. Things don't just appear, someone has to make them, and sometimes you have to take it in your hands to make things happen.

@TyFilms Part of the reason you don't see everything in one single video is because the amount of information required to go over everything generally takes a long time to discuss.

PCPer put up an excellent PC build guide video series not too long ago. It's in 3 parts but goes over everything in detail - from what each component is, to assembling the parts, to installing Windows.

I wouldn't see that as a bad thing. Unless it was a series like someone else pointed out. A playlist about parts would be very helpful.
