ITX AMD to Intel Upgrade

TL;DR - Current rig below, want to upgrade MoBo and CPU to maximise performance of GPU and monitor; making my PC ready for capturing and streaming (which I've already tried and it's awful / throttles).

I have an exchange voucher that can contribute to an Intel CPU, so less restrictions there. I want to go Skylake on a DDR3 motherboard.

Otherwise, what ITX motherboard reccomendations do you have? Cheaper the better. Probably not gonna overclock, but may way in to the future.

P.S - Feel free to make other suggestions on RAM, fans, AiOs... whatever. I probably won't be changing them as the build works as is, but I'll bank it for when I do upgrade those components.

Quote

1. Budget & Location

I'm from the UK, so currency is £ (GBP). No fixed budget, more part advice (but cheaper preferred obviously)

2. Aim

My current system runs what FFXIV (pretty much all I play) on almost max settings at 60 - 70FPS. That's great although I have a 144hz monitor.
I want to make the most of my monitor by changing my CPU from AMD to Intel (on an LGA1151 DDR3 Motherboard/Intel Platform). I also want to start streaming and recording footage from my games and emulating. I've already tried this on my current build and tried load-reducing measures and my APU (A8-7600) can't handle it and throttles.

3. Monitors & Current Build (parts to upgrade in underlined italics)

1 monitor currently and 2 in the future. It's 1080p and 144hz.

Most importantly, you need to take into consideration that you HAVE to get new RAM as it's DDR4 not DDR3 :/

Anyway, any specific requirements for the cooler, motherboard ect.? :D

edit: the H55 is fine, missed it :)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Looks like I've made a few mistakes! Here goes:

1. I want to stay on DDR3, so after a brief search I dun-goofed. I believe I can only run 4th/5th Generation Intel processors?

2. No specific requirements for motherboard, as long as it's ITX.

3. I already have an AiO I'll be using as I've saved the Intel brackets from it.

This is literally a CPU/MoBo swap-out.

You can still use ddr3 with skylake cpu, if you get ddr3 mobo

I thought so... hence the confusion in the above post, and I've now changed the topic. >_> No worries. A learning curve.

So.
1. LGA 1151 socket.

2. DDR3 motherboards.

Not if you want to overclock your i7 6700k and I don't believe DDR3 LGA1151 ITX motherboards exist either :/

I'm seeing various articles / pages stating it does work with DDR3, but some say not officially supported.

I like both options you've given though, quite realistic, and the same place I'd trade in to get a CPU also does cheap DDR4 RAM so it's not out of the question.

This isn't ITX, but this is an LGA1151 DDR3 MoBo...?
Still, you're showing me the light with affordable DDR4!

Not for Z170, it's like what's the point in getting an unlocked CPU if you can't overclock due to limiting chipset? ;)

For H110, it does (and in Mini ITX!) but you won't be able to OC so...if OP doesn't going down to a 6700 then I guess it could work (I don't know how much damage it can do but normal DDR3 sticks do require 0.3volts more compared to DDR4 sticks so...it could potentially damage the memory controller as well :P)

I most likely won't OC so going down to a 6700 is fine, but... it could possible damage stuff on DDR3?

I don't know whether it's proven or not but back when skylake came out, reviews of DDR3 LGA1511 motherboards always had the caution of how DDR3 sticks operate at 1.5V+ while DDR4 sticks usually run at 1.2Volts :P

Got'cha. I'll keep an open mind... but what about other generations of processor then, such as 4th and 5th gen? I'm not doing a great deal on my PC so I imagine any high-end Intel processor is going to smash the performance of my A8-7600.

Yep, any haswell/Broadwell/Skylake CPU will destroy your budget A8 ;)

So if you'd like saving your current RAM (and don't mind being maxed at 8GB without having to completely switch) then:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£299.00 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Impact Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£157.22 @ Misco UK)
Total: £456.22
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-10-29 22:56 BST+0100

Or any i5 (Haswell and later) but x8x/x9x (aka Z97/87, H97/87 ect.) motherboards in Mini ITX flavours seems to be getting a little difficult to find :/

Fan-tastic.

Final scenario then, if wasn't overclocking and ran an Intel i7-4790? Best/cheapest MoBos?

This is the Intel equivalent of the ASRock MoBo I have in my system right now.
I wondered if there was anything wrong with this model?

The motherboard you linked is probably the cheapest and well frankly, go for it if you wanna as that motherboard is fine :)

ddr3 uses more volts than ddr4, which means that you will slowly burn the memory controller on unsupported mobos. Think of it as overvolting on your cpu.

Also, it is not offically supported, so it may or may not work.

TL;DR Its kinda a gamble.
