What about older cards like the 290X Lightning Edition or would it be better to just go with a RX 480?

I really want a 1070 but the pricing in the UK makes it almost unjustifiable :/ I mean the EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 SC is £425! Simultaneously, I don't really have any other options for a GPU at the same performance level.

To give some kind of perspective, the Sapphire AMD RX480 8 GB is £245

Did almost the same thing like 3 days ago, just to figure out if 1050/1050TI worth the buck (in EU with 20%+ VAT), came to a conclusion = THEY DO NOT!
 

... but it would be nice if Linus update this spread sheet with 1050/1050TI in USD and I'll promise I'll rework it into CZK/EUR with VAT.

 

PS: I'm doing it cause my 750TI REALLY needs an upgrade, so I LOVE Linus for including it ...

Love these videos, for the amount of research there goes into them, and the amount of data you guys gather to give these lists. However with GPUs getting as powerful as they do, it pains me a bit that you exclude the fact that even high end CPUs as i5 k edition with high overclock, still manage to bottleneck 1070/1080 at 1080p or some cases of 1440p. So I feel like when you talking about upgrades to a current pc, you should also include the fact that a high end GPU might bottleneck your system with these high power cards. And I know what some will say that, you should not purchase these cards for 1080p anyways, but some of us really wanna get the juice out of the 120 or 144 hz monitor that we bought, even in non E-sports related games.

Maybe in US, definitely not in EU... basically the vid is right. If you go budget take 460, if not go 1060 (if you are SURE you will NOT LACK SLI or only 3GB VRAM), or buy 470/480 (for future SLI upgrade).

Also I'm almost definitely possitive, that 3GB will be enough in the future 1080p gaming (considering GTA V on medium-high take around 2,5GB), so it seems that AMD (460/470/480) is WAY better option every time...

Kind of hard to recommend $200 ish and under nvidia cards for me when you could get a free-sync display typically if you're buying a monitor with the rig, this one's $120 for 1080p 75hz TN free-sync, LG has an IPS display with the same specs but it's not in the US yet I still think

1070 is a beast though. I'm currently playing GTA V again but I'm playing at 1440p with EVERYTHING maxxed out (even 8x MSAA & 8x Reflection MSAA) including all the advanced options at max and I'm running the photorealistic ENB and its beyond gorgeous yet still kepping at above 50fps all the time.

 

Haven't ventured out into the desert yet though, I've just opened the first heist and am doing the setup for it.

Here in the states the rx 460 I can find that will fit my case are around the $110-$120 range. I need a card the size of the evga 750ti sc, which I had previously and sold in the hopes of an upgrade.

 

The 1050 can be had for around $115 and the ti for around $145. So I'm not sure which of these budget cards to go for.

I could use some more shopping advice.

 

Im planing on buying a GTX 1060. I want to mod my GTA V so I will need a 6GB variant. Also I want to be future proof with this card for the next 3 - 5 years.

 

The Gigabyte Windforce edition Linus suggested is around 275€ here in germany (link)

But the Gigabyte G1 gaming is only around 10€ more expensiv (link) that's why I planed on buying that one.

However many reviews (I guess around 10%) on different sites report that both cards have issues with coil whine.

 

The next higher upgrade would be a MSI Gaming for aound 310€ (link) that I wouldn't buy since the MSI Gaming X is only 5€ more expensiv (link). Both MSI cards however have lower clock speed then the Gigabyte variants.

 

So which one should I buy? The MSI Gaming X or should I try the lottery with a Gigabyte G1?

 

I know that the EVGA SC Gaming is cheaper with around 270€ (link) but I really want to protect the card with a backplate and keep it cool (60-65°C) with at least 2 fans.

Speaking of fans Linus mentioned that you should buy a card with double ball baring fans, if you want to keep the card for a long time. I however couldn't find any information to the ball barings of any of the mentiont cards. Does anyone have some info on that?
