That's a fair point. Although I don't think we should faze out DVI just because it would be nicer if it were single slot.

Well 1050tis are one slot and still have DVI

Image result for gtx1050ti

But I would rather have 3DP +1 HDMI than a DVI and two others.

The DVI is the only thing taking up that second slot on those high end cards. Some people even shop it off to make their cards one slot, which is a bad workaround.

Single slot fan coolers would have to be really good for the higher tier cards.

??

It wouldn't come with single slot coolers, just single slot IO for people who want to watercool.

Anyone buying a high end GPU should also have a high end monitor which would have more than just analogue input.

So, you're saying that they should make single slot for water-cooling and not air-cooling?

Maybe once somebody figures out how to use those heatsinks that spin themselves instead of using a fan, that could be a thing.

I wouldn't want a large block of metal spinning while it's dangling upside-down.

Edit: Especially once 0dB mode is deactivated straight to 2000RPM.

Yeah, so that you don't have that ugly metal cover sticking out for that legacy DVI port that people should stop using:

Me neither. Hence the "figures out how to use" part xD

I don't mind DVI dual link as long as I don't see VGA though I would also rather see them use the second row for more DP or HDMI as a TM member.

There is really no need for DVI if you have HDMI or DP other than the backwards compatibility with analogue.

DVI-D is just HDMI or DP signal.

I agree, we should remove that abomination and use the space for DP/HDMI.

Maybe by the next generation of GPUs they'll be able to do that without backlash from people who still own exclusively analog displays. But then again you can adapt DVI and VGA to HDMI or DP for like $10.

  • 10 months later...

I know thread is old, but "almost" i have this confing. In theory is possible, when you connect 5K display (2x DP) to gpu, in nvidia help tips you should found how to connect multiple 5K monitors to 9xx series gtx geforce. So, you can connect 4x 5K monitors if you use 4-way sli gtx9xx (maybe with new titans x/xp should work to) - but as I said - in theory

i connected 2x 5K (I have 4gpus (2x 1080 and 2x 980ti) and also quadro m5000 (4x dp), quadro see 4 monitors, cant expand it at all in mosaic

SLI surround works but i got only 10240x1600 (should be 10240x2880) or 3200x5120 portrait (should be 5760x5120) and even after accept it for example 10240x1600 i got 15s windows freeze and restart

I tried on windows 7 and 10 - over month - different drivers - the same situation

Of course 5120x2880 x2 (as 2x independed screens works ok), also if i connect only one DP then i got 3840x2160 max each screen I can expand to 7680x2160 or 4320x3840 (portrait) without problems

I am waiting for third monitor but I think I will get the same results as now
