I assume my cpu is bottlenecking and making my 1070 act like a potato?

Go to solution Solved by johnwshek1218,

the geforce experience drivers should have the gpu drivers as well, like if you went to nvidia.com or searched google for gtx 1070 drivers you would then have been brought to a page where you can search for drivers for your gpu in this case 1070, and then hit i agree and download, and geforce experience is included in that download, if you are unsure, when geforce experience opens, navigate to the drivers page with experience, and it will tell you if you have the latest drivers installed or not, and you should be in regular mode when installing not safe mode.

I dont have a dvi connector so I decided to test my cpu using minecraft since my monitor is big enough to have both afterburner and the game on screen at once. I ran afterburner and played for a bit and I think my cpu is bottlenecking? Is this true? If so, how can I fix this? Looking at my parts I think you'll know that my computer can handle what I'm asking of it :P

Almost looks like it's using the integrated graphics with that fps even though minecraft shows you're using the 1070. Perhaps reinstall graphics

drivers?

i7 4790s are 5% off an i7-6700 so I don't see that being the bottleneck.

The numbers you have up there in AB actually don't say whether your GPU is being used to the max. Try CPU and GPU usage.

That CPU usage is nowhere near maximum, so that's not your problem.  Can you run MSI afterburner or a similar app and show us the GPU usage?

I'd honestly be surprised if a 4790 is bottlenecking a 1070.  My 2500 (aso a non-K) has no issues with my own 1070

Well generally speaking Minecraft is CPU bound since it can't use more than about two threads properly, and it's not very graphically demanding, which is made worse by the fact you seem to have run it in a small window for this "Test".  So yes, it probably is CPU bottlenecked, but there's not really anything you can do about that.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I'm seeing GPU clock speed and VRAM speed, but not the actual usage.

Still, if you say it's around 15%, there's something going on indeed.

Ah, I just see that @Ryan_Vickers chimed in with what may very well be the answer.  If Minecraft does indeed have issues with using more cores, that could indeed introduce a CPU bottleneck.

I only tested mine with GTA5, which does use all cores properly.

Yeah those are some low numbers for AC 4 at 1080,60

I would begin by uninstalling drivers with DDU, then installing the second to latest version of the Geforce driver.
