Alright, so I'm finally upgrading from my old xbox 360, and wanting to become part of the PCMR I'm obviously going to build a PC.  However, most of my friends have an Xbox One and I was thinking that instead of having to buy an Xbox one also, I could just either dual-boot the Xbox One OS on my PC or run it off of a VM.  I'm not sure if this is possible and I was wondering how I would do it as  I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't make it easy. Any ideas?

Why not? Is it because the Xbox one OS is designed only for its crappy hardware?

xbox one is not an os. it was not meant as an os. its a gaming console.

Some people manage to make ps3 or ps4 in the past with custom linux os but that's as far you can go

The Xbox One does have an OS, just a "cut back" Windows that uses the tablet UI and UX as a base, and turns certain services off.

The Xbox One's variant of Windows performs hardware and firmware checks, same with the PS4's Unix-like OS. One would have to modify the operating system to work, but that would require extracting the operating system, a task that no one has performed and revealed details about. When it comes down to it, there is little reason to boot a console OS on better hardware.

Do you think there is at least a possibility to play on the same servers as Xbox?

That is up to the game developers. There have been cross platform games in the past that allowed it, and Microsoft is wanting to push Xbox and PC cross compatibility, but I doubt we'll see it widespread before Scorpio, maybe even Scoprio's successor.

Again, don't count too much on that. I will say, the One has dropped in price a bit, so you could pick one up if you have some extra scratch after your build.

I'd just buy a used Xbox, the 500GB models are going quite cheap. You'll get a controller, which can also be used with the PC.
So, really, it's a win win situation.
