Windows Not Using All i7 Cores

Anyone know why Windows has taken apon itself to stop using all 8 cores and now using only 2?

I think it's just displaying it wrongly... use AIDA64 or HWmonitor to check properly.

Check your BIOS to see if you have cores disabled.

It can see them all in the device manager so I'm wondering if it's not using them just cause of lower load. Strange though

I've checked my BIOS and everything seems fine. I'm using an ASUS Maximus VII Ranger if there is a specific section in the BIOS you wish my to screenshot with my phone.

I've tried using that software and unparked all my CPUs but Windows is still only using one core out of 4 of them. This is so strange. I've even put my BIOS back to the default settings.

I've tried using HWmonitor.

Run a benchmark like Cinebench R15 and come back to us. You'll notice immediately if you're only using half your CPU.

Is your computer to "high performance" in the power settings. Is it running at the max frequency?

All power saving options do is either turn my monitor off or puts my PC to sleep if I've not used it. Both are set to 'never'.

I already know I'm not. Windows is showing I have a quad core i7 intel chip. And task manager is showing I am only use 1/4 of those cores. I'm trying to get my PC to use all four cores.

Go into advanced options and you will see the setting can also set the max amount of usage for the cpu, and set the max frequency, set it to "high performance" get rid of those and run a benchmark and see if it hits 100%.

Reset bios back to defaults

Update acpi drivers

Reinstall os

Remove cpu, check for bent pins

Check pin contact for dirt, smudges, or finger prints.

I'm thinking that if I do a fresh Windows 7 installation and I still only have one core then it has to be something wrong in the BIOS.

Or a hardware problem.

 

Have you tried STRESSING your CPU? Run Cinebench. It's free......... You'll either see 4 "Squares" or 8 "squares" depending on whether or not you have hyperthreading. If you only see two, then you know you have a problem.

The number of processors should be 1 unless you have another CPU. Use Aida 64 and run a system stability test and show us the results. You may be using all of your cores and you just don't know it.
