Gaming Headset

Go to solution Solved by Mihle,

I would recommend you too look up philips SHP9500.

I do not personally own them, but some say they are great, especially for the price, but it depends really on what you want.

Hi All

I am looking to get a new headset. I am not exactly an audiophile, but I do want them to be of decent quality. :D I currently own a V-moda Crossfade LP. I have had it for a loooong time and I think its time for a change. Other than the sound quality, I am looking for a headset that can give decent positional accuracy in games. My budget is around 150 USD. What I have shortlisted are (other suggestions are of course welcome) :

1) Sennheiser HD 598

2) Audio Technica ATH-AD900X

  • As I understood, these open back headsets give good positional audio ?
  • I did listen to a demo. Will the sound leak be too unbearable for my wife during gaming ? :D
  • I guess I will add an modmic to this.

3) Logitech G933

  • I did read "decent" reviews about this headset. Is the 7.1 any good ?

Now, I am open to closed-back headsets as well, provided they can give decent positional accuracy (can close back headsets give decent soundstage at all ?). And, are there any wireless options in open-back headset in my budget ?

I personally own a pair of Sennheiser Game Zeros. Although they are closed back they provide excellent positional sound. Also the microphone can't be described as anything but excellent. If you can get these on the cheap (got mine at Amazon for 140€) I can really recommend them. If you are looking into wireless, I've heard decent things about the Corsair Void but I'm mit sure if they're open or closed (cost around 100 bucks)

The HyperX Cloud Stinger headset just became available a few days ago. From an LTT video of them at Pax West they appear to have the best quality for a sub $50.00 headphone out of all the previous HyperX Cloud product line. I'm actually going to watch some YouTube reviews on them now lol, if there's anything negative I'll report back here because I want them someday too.

Is this 7.1 technology any good ? As in, I have seen very bad as well as good review about it. As in, echoes and loss of clarity and stuff like that ?

I had initially zeroed in on the G933... after a little more research I add the two open back headset into my list.....

biggest soundstage of those AD900x, with no problem. So they also win in positional audio, but they don't  have that much bass.

depends on who you are. I would have no problem with them.

You can look up frequency response for the headphones you have right now and then compare it to the AD900x, look at 100Hz and down, because the biggest drop is there

I currently use the g933s and I'm loving them so far. The positional audio is pretty good in my opinion. The only think for me is that it's just a little too small for me but I don't really mind. But I would definitely recommend it.

Adding three more to the list :

1) Sennheiser HD 598

2) Audio Technica ATH-AD900X

3) Logitech G933

4) Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 (I would assume I need an external DAC for this ? or will the SupremeFX on my Asus Rampage V extreme be able to drive it ? )

5) Sennheiser RS 185 RF

6) Sennheiser Game One
