Why is a high end 1080p tv suck as a monitor

I have a new 5000 series Samsung 32 1080p tv, when viewing YouTube and games it's great, when looking at a word doc it sucks.  Why?

becasue the size of the screen is so big it means that the words look small, word docs are something that consist of small details (words and letters) this is due to its huge size. games and youtube dont tend to have small details or atleast the main proportion isnt small

My guess is a image quality mode when it assumes that everything on the screen is moving and it isn't in PC mode.

Try checking if the Picture Mode is Cinema/Vivid or something similar and change it to Standard/PC or similar?

First, make sure you're actually outputting 1920x1080 at 60Hz to the TV and that you haven't set scaling/overscan to anything but 0%. Also ensure the aspect ratio on the TV is set to 16:9. Then try the different modes on the TV. You're looking for something like a text mode or PC mode. 

 

TV manufacturers assume most only video with the possibility of subtitles in relatively huge fonts are going to be displayed so they optimize the image settings for that by default. It usually results in video looking smooth but tiny text looking too blurry to read.

Go into the options and rename the HDMI channel to PC, should fix most of the scaling issues and blurry text. After that you'll just be fighting pixel density.

1080i or because the pixels are bigger

I use a 32inch Samsung TV as a monitor (For Now). In the beginning the display wouldn't fit the screen properly and i have to use the overscan thing in CCC, but it still looked iffy. only recently realised the TV itself has a Picture size setting to swap between 16:9, wide fit, etc. Set it to Fit screen and pow, everything scaled properly, no blur.
