After some advice on a current gen graphics cards with mini display ports?

Reason being to save space I use my wife's 27" 1440p imac as a display. The only way this works is to use a mini display port cable.

Currently running a Palit gtx 970 but looking for a upgrade as a Christmas present to myself.

Not worried about make but something that can handle 1440p with ease. Any advice would be appreciated.

You could always use a full-mini adapter.

Tried searching for a GPU on PC partpicker. It seems that the highest green GPU with mini-DP is the 980. If you're looking for a GPU upgrade I'd get the 1070 and an adapter.

I guess PCPP doesn't know then. I wouldn't go to the 980 Ti, though, since the 1070 can do the same while being newer.

Mini display port to Hdmi or display port cables don't work It specifically has to be a double male mini display cable. It's a apple thing. There are switching units you can buy but they are expensive.

Yes, because it is the same standart, mini DP just lacks some features like audio transfer.

HDMI doesn't adapt to DisplayPort, you wouldn't get any signal with that even if it were a normal display.

There is no difference between DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort, they are just different shape connectors. Get a $5 DP to mDP adapter and see if it works with your 970 before buying a graphics card.

(EDIT: Now that I think about it, I thought the use-imac-as-a-monitor feature only works from another Mac?)

The feature was removed after 2012, it's a old Machine!
