Anyway to cure PC infected by windows 10? (Forced upgrade)

Streetguru

So I guess this happened to them today, I've already backed up the drive and will be building a new PC anyway, but that'll be a few days and they're missing work/losing some money because of this, thanks microsoft

but is there a way to fix this? Windows 10 forced it's upgrade today I guess, PC used to run windows 7, it just keeps on spinning, they left it like this for hours earlier today

I also already installed win7 to their other PCs and prevented updates, so hopefully windows 10 doesn't infect any of those.

PUSZzry.jpg

The solution is just going to be reinstalling windows isn't it?

they don't like change, also windows 10 is part spyware, and they need software compatibility with windows 7

my experience with 10 on my laptop has been poor, pretty slow and cut my battery life by 40% compared to windows 8, but I can't find a win8 ISO

Well if it's for some old people then I understand.

But there is no "spyware" in windows 10, I have found 0 programs that are compatible with windows 7 but not 10, and my battery life is perfectly fine.

Maybe you're having problems with your laptop because you didn't clean install?

I completely wiped it and formatted it using Gparted

windows 10 sends data to microsoft, even if you disable the telemetry it gets reset after every forced update

also the forced updates, although I guess if you set your connection to a metered connection it prevents it from updating?

1) maybe you laptop is old and the manufacturer never made updated drivers for windows 10

2) telemetry collection is NOT the same as spying

If you think windows 10 is 'spying' then you should do some research on the information that your ISP, your phone, google, any everything else collects, you might die from a heart attack.

3) Which is good? That's exactly how it should be like. Way too many people disabled updates on previous windows and got viruses and issues with programs.

If you need to you can delay the restart when you're busy.

The difference there is that, when a person engages an online service, their action is authorizing and requesting a transmission of data, and so it is inherent that data will be accessible by certain services. Such examples are entirely different from what Windows 10 does, where Microsoft is stealing people's data from what naturally offline and private environments, and transmitting it to themselves.

The full extent (or, probably not the full extent) of what Microsoft does with people's data is strewn across multiple documents online, but this some of it:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/netro/2015/09/09/windows-7-windows-8-and-windows-10-telemetry-updates-diagnostic-tracking/

Quote

The Microsoft Data Management Service routes information to internal cloud storage, where it's compiled into business reports for analysis and research.

...

However, we do share business reports with partners that include aggregated, anonymous telemetry information. Decisions to share info are made by an internal team that includes privacy, legal, and data management professionals

3) Which is good? That's exactly how it should be like. Way too many people disabled updates on previous windows and got viruses and issues with programs.

If you need to you can delay the restart when you're busy.

That's just the PR excuse Microsoft gave to justify forcing spy updates on people.

Windows 10's user data collection is not limited online activities conducted through Edge browser and Internet Explorer. If I use a web browser, I've entered into a strictly-online environment, and I'm aware that I'm transmitting specific information that is limited to what goes on in that environment, and I've chosen to share that information for a specific and personal purpose. I have not chosen, or have purpose to authourize any data transmission outside of particular and limited online environments.

Right but there's a choice there, I could be using Duck Duck GO, and I could be using a VPN

With windows 10 there's really no other option, especially when it comes to DX12 gaming, not that I use 10 for now anyways

No, it isn't. Nor is it going to individual files. W10 is looking for the most common programs used by its users. Most likely so that Microsoft can make alternatives.

Updates are thoroughly tested, the problem is that there are plenty of people too lazy to do a clean install, and the upgrade process is broken, so it's impossible to predict the millions of ways the OS can fail.

If you do a clean install the proper way there should be 0 issues with updates.

The difference is that the internet is a public space. A person's desktop environment and PC outside of internet usage is a private space. CCTV does not peer into people's houses, which is what Microsoft's Windows data collection is akin to.

For Windows 7 and 8, extra steps can be taken to prevent telemetry and data collection updates from being installed.

I agree it should, but it feels good to go into all these obscure settings and teach the OS who's boss. Not recommended for people who don't feel euphoria from making their computer work in a different way (example: use SpeedFan to make ghetto as fuck GPU Boost based on temperature)
