So they couldn't just update that easily?

The security updates will not really be super useful anyways because the code is so well known that someone could probably exploit it. I think trying to change the major ways an operating system works is a lot of effort that Microsoft doesn't want to put in when they could just sell a newer version.

I'm curious to the reasoning why Windows XP is no longer being supported. I know Microsoft has to sell new operating systems, however I'm curious I was wondering were there technical limitations to why it is no longer supported?

A 64 bit version of XP was created. Just wondering if there was a specific reason. I can't seem to find a valid explanation online.

It was outdated and doesn't support newer tech, and even any security updates would likely be useless.

But yeah, just not worth the effort.

Sorry, I replied to Godly Gamer 23, but you replied so swiftly between my typing and clicking submit I thought it would have been obvious.

I mean its 15, going on 16 years old. What company supports a product for 15 years? They have all these new versions, they can't keep supporting ancient products, its not free.

Thank you. This thread is "Resolved" if there's a tick for that. It just made little sense to me since many people used XP, and it was adored by many.

In posts, you should see a little checkmark where all the other options are. That's used to mark posts as "solved" or "resolved."

My dad still uses windows XP regularly, updates off. Still running the factory toshiba windows copy.

We build military computers that use Windows XP, and even something like Windows 98.

That sounds like a very very bad idea.

Teach him how to use a newer secure OS, especially if his work is any value to him.

He knows. But he can't be bothered because it still works.

Well them bother him.

It's not good to be stubborn and then end up losing lots of money or work because of it.
